Think they are called blood spots. Safe to eat. Google specks in egg white.

It might be what i've heard called a 'meat spot' 🤢🙁😬 Part of the reproductive system. I just saw this a few days ago on one of the cooking shows. I think it was Patti. She cracks her eggs individually in a small white bowl---then adds to what ever she is cooking. I've always done the same except for an egg alone for breakfast. Just easier to see a bit of shell or a blood/meat spot if in a white bowl.

Whoever it was tossed it. Then when i looked it up it is said to be fine---just fish it out. I've not had Costco eggs in a few year but i never had that happen.

Yup, that's a "meat spot". It's a bit of the oviduct, usually. It's more prevalent in older birds, which just means the supplier is hanging onto their birds longer instead of culling them when they are about a year old. It is also more prevalent in some breeds and sometimes can mean that the birds are sick, but it's mostly due to age.

It's perfectly safe to eat, but I don't, I pick them out. I do have some "older" girls, one is almost 9, so I occasionally get weirdnesses in the eggs or the shells of the eggs. It happens.

A blood spot is different, it's from the rupture of a blood vessel when the egg is being formed. It dissipates over time so finding one means that your egg is very fresh. Also safe to eat and harder to pick out!

I remember one time in college, a friend who was taking embriology at the time, peeling her breakfast egg.....and diagnosing it as a 36 hour chick.....she went and got another!
