Before & After - Pictures of My Tiny Galley Kitchen
Comments (37)Thanks for all the kind words! GW was a great resource all the way through the planning and then the "doing"! Just a couple examples - until I posted a question about which mullions I should choose for glass front cabinets, it never had occurred to me that I had far more choices than plain glass. Now every time I open my cabinets, I smile - I do love the river ice! And because I had always had them, I started my plan with lower cabinets but thanks to GW I changed to all drawers. I love having all my pots, pans, mixing bowls, and small appliances in deep drawers. No more pulling everything out to get the one thing in the back. When we were house hunting, I dreamed of a huge eat-in kitchen with an antique butcher block, but I'm really enjoying cooking in this cozy space with everything so close at hand. mabeldingeldine: We're not Mainers, we just wish we were! We take a trip to the mid-coast area every summer. We got married there and got the Common Ground poster that year - it was also the perfect addition to my kitchen chicken collection! t-bird: Getting the Scherr's doors didn't save any money but I was able to get exactly what I wanted - I just didn't love the finish/materials on any of the white Ikea doors. I posted a breakdown of my costs on the "Under $20k Kitchens thread". I've still got some little paint touch-ups to do, and I need to put some trim where the backsplash ends but it's so nice to have a kitchen that really works. Comments (6)Thank you!!! Someone on the forum said that your kitchen should make you gasp a little each morning. That is exactly what this does for me! And I can sit on my couch in the family room and look directly at that cooktop backsplash illuminated by the hood lights. I have spent more than a couple of evenings drinking wine (probably should be margaritas) and doing just that! We're really enjoying the more usable space. Yesterday DD had a friend over to bake some killer cupcakes and I prepared dinner at the same time. She said, "Mom, can you believe we can both work in here at the same time?" Meanwhile, DH, one of the boys and my other DD were all sitting at the counter chatting and visiting with us. Heavenly!! I'm in love with those pendants over the peninsula. They cast a beautiful multicolored glow on the wall and cabinets and really add to the sexy cool feel. Cawaps, that's exactly what I love so much about the tile. I wanted something Mexican, because of all the wonderful memories we have traveling to both the West Coast and Yucatan areas of Mexico. Great family times and great romantic trips as well. This kitchen, for me, captures both! Love the contemporary but still Mexican feel. The resorts have that same vibe. mmhmmgood, the improvement is amazing. When I walk into that part of the house, I don't even recognize it as mine! circuspeanut, the tile comes mounted on mesh in the strips like that. A link to the tile is attached. Comments (47)I did see your kitchen back in Dec. Dec is a huge b-day month in our family. And I remember wanting to write a note and then life got away from me and when I returned to GW my short attention span swiftly went on to some picture search for a fello GWebber. I love the edge you chose on your counters. The backsplash is gorgeous but especially the softness that you can see from slide pic with kitty in front of the refrigerator. You can see the smoothness of the tiles with the warm color compliments the cabinet color. The mix of textures and of course your artistic tiles too. The wood floors with wood cabinets looks amazing and often something people are afraid to do but it came out perfect in your space. I love that you put wine glasses in those beautiful glass cabinets beside your range. The glitter and sparkle looks faboulous. Thanks for posting these great pictures, ~boxerpups...See MoreRenovated ranch kitchen- before and afters
