My bathroom renovation: Before and after. Many, many pics.
Comments (26)The paint color on the lower half of the wall is just a very light lavender. The upper half is more purple. I actually mixed the lavender myself, by adding a little of the purple paint to some white paint. The fake tile (sheet vinyl) floor came from Linoleum City in Los Angeles. I looked and looked and looked for that vinyl and Linoleum City is the only place that sells it. I called a salesman there and asked about it. He said they had a unique contract with Tarkett (I think) to produce this product and he didn't think it was sold anywhere else in the country. Their number one client is Hollywood. Set-building people buy it by the roll to use on the sets. The sheet vinyl creates the look of early 20 Century hex tile floor in a jiffy. :) The light fixtures and medicine chest are reproductions. The light fixtures came from Rejunvenation Hardware and the medicine chest came from Van Dykes Restoration hardware. All these years of writing about old houses and I finally got to use some of the resources I've been writing about. Thanks for all the nice comments. Comments (12)I usually like banquettes when they are tucked into a corner, not free-floating. I think in this case I would flip the kitchen layout significantly. Here's one idea: I tried to draw squares of roughly 24"/side for each seat at the banquette & put a good size table in the open space. The door(s) into your office/ex-DR could be a pair of french doors, maybe 4' wide in total, set on a diagonal to clip the corner between the end of the long banquette seating & the wall between the DR & LR. I think this would give you good counter space & plenty of lower cabinets in the kitchen, but you would be short on upper cabinet space b/c you'd only have from the door to the laundry to the window (over the sink, which doesn't have to move). The stove would need to move, as would the fridge. For the peninsula between the kitchen & den, you may want to have it extra wide (I tried to draw it wider than the other base cabinets). If you used a 24" base & backed it with 12" or 18" cabinets that faced the den, you'd have storage for video games, books, board games, etc. This is just one idea, hopefully it sparks other (better) ones....See MoreRanch Remodel: Before & After + Lessons Learned
Comments (40)I love the Reno and thanks for the tips! I think the open kitchen is beautiful- most prep is done before the guests arrive and they always congregate in the kitchen anyway. We started our Reno December 26 and got a fantastic price since we were doing it at a slow time of the year. We bought materials and appliances ourselves and were able to take advantage of great holiday deals....See MoreBefore & After - Small Primary Bath Renovation Done!
Comments (24)@shirleybear7 We’re very happy with it! It’s been several months now and it looks good as new, no complaints. I recommended them to my mom who just remodeled her primary bath as well, and hers just got installed this week. The only thing I’d say, which I told her as well, is that the freight co. will only deliver to the end of your driveway, so you want to make sure you have a couple strong people on hand for delivery day because they’re heavy as heck, especially with the countertop (boxed separately) secured to the top. Good luck!...See Moremorz8 - Washington Coast
