Just heard on the news...average is $4.50 for us in SoCal.

The station where I go in L.A. has gas for $4.46 for regular, and it is $4.35 where I go in Cathedral City. It is $5.21 at the Shell station near my house in L.A., but that station is on the freeway at La Tijera, and so it gets business from the San Diego Freeway (I-405).

Yeah, chloebud, my response was a combination of what I've seen in the Bay Area and SoCal - I split my time between the two.

I filled up this morning... $2.89 regular in Houston.

I literally just got back from the gas station. $4.75 lowest grade. You can guess where I am (SoCal). It's a little more expensive on my side of town, but I don't have a good enough reason (or the time) to drive across town for a slightly better deal.

Lowest I saw today was $3.54, pump your own. Gas station closest to me is $3.74. This is for regular.. Outside of Philadelphia.

Today I saw $3.32 in the Chicago suburbs. The range is in either side of that by 10 or 20 cents, I think.

We paid $3.40/gallon at Costco a couple weeks ago...for premium. Chicago has higher taxes than the suburbs, where we live. Illinois doubled the state tax -- last year, I think. Way past time for that! IDK how we'll finance roads once most vehicles are electric.

I haven't bought any this week, so didn't know. I googled the answer and it is $3.04 all across

the board...every Gas Station, etc., etc., that I checked. That is rare..there are a couple of places

that are usually at least a couple of cents higher than others.

So glad I don't have to commute to work anymore. Filled up last week and it was nearly $50.

We filled up today at Sam's Club for $3.15/gal, the usual stations are all $3.19 today. Sam's is normally ~.15 cents cheaper but not today.

States also impose a gas tax (in addition to the federal tax)and with but a few exceptions, they do so at rates higher than the federal rate. In addition, many (most?) states also impose their sales tax on gas sales.

The federal tax is an excise tax and not a sales tax. I think the technical difference is that the tax is based on physical units of the item, not on sales value measured in money terms.

They may have more fuel-efficient cars in UK as well. My own car is very compact and gets great gas mileage, but I have not taken it on long road trips - yet. I would be comfortable driving it to San Francisco, but not much further than that.

I've had a couple of cars broken into in San Francisco, and so I'm not keen on driving there.

I think gas prices in SF are about the same as L.A., but I never had a car when I lived in S.F.

I filled up. at Sam's the other day at $2.77 and it is now $2.88. The QT across the street from Sam's is usually .20 higher.

Side note: I've brought gas only 2 times in the last year and a 1/2. Sweet.

As of yesterday $3.30ish outside Orlando FL. Jumped $.30 over the weekend. Must be all those container ships milling around.

In NE Ohio, it's right around $3 a gallon for regular. I paid $2.96 last week at Sam's Club, they are usually the best price in town where I live. Not sure if it's gone up yet...I'll see if I can google it....OK it is $3.07 today.

Prices are fluctuating here, but no station I've seen has gone past $2.99. Yesterday I saw one had dropped to $2.91 so there is a little bit of movement in favor of the drivers. Ozarks.

Thanks, Elmer. I guess I don't differentiate between the kinds of taxes I'm paying at the time I'm shelling out, and carried that over to this thread. And now that I think of it, I'm not sure what our county calls what it's just imposed. All I know is, more $$. (Actually ¢¢)

You're right, just me being pedantic. Sorry. The difference is that when the price of a gallon of gas goes up by, say, $1, the sales tax amount goes up but the federal and state gas taxes stay the same. Sales tax is a percentage applied against the selling price, the gas tax is so much per gallon no matter what the price. So that actually at a higher selling price, the percentage of the cost paid for gas taxes decreases.

Motor fuel has long been much more expensive in Europe than here (as floral reports from the UK as presently equivalent to $8 per US gallon) and the difference comes from a substantially higher level of tax imposed. At one time, there were significant differences from country to country - drive across a border to see prices soar or plummet, depending on which countries were involved.

Eh, the round "file" under the desk (or its mental equivalent) might be more appropriate for most people.

We just stopped by a Costco. It was $3.19. I use Shell because I get discounts with Stop &Shop. There are a few Shells in neighboring towns and they can be as much as a 50 cent difference.

Last week my Shell was $3.19 but whatever it is this week I am eligible for 60 cents off per gallon.

The cheapest ( Costco) is 3.39. Most of the local ones are in the 3.45 to 3.59.

to 3.03, and the rest stayed at the 3.04

Just saw $3.15 here in lower Michigan today. Was up to $3.30 yesterday.

$3.15 for regular up to $3.70 for super. Northern Virginia

Filled up Sunday $3.35 for diesel . Was 309. last time.

Southern Wisconsin: $299 - $310 /gal for 87 octane, up to 10% alcohol. It has come down 5 cents/gal during the last week.

$3.20 in Florida

2.89 for low end at Sam's in Oklahoma City

3.99 for Diesel.

I just filled up my pickup truck for $2.99 for regular. That should last me awhile since I don't often drive the truck unless I need to haul something or pull my fishing boat. I drive my Camry most of the time which gets around 32 mpg.

average $1.48 per liter here....$6.60/gal
