It went from $3.83 yesterday to $3.95 today. No matter... we have about 400 miles to go this weekend to cover all the family plots. Then we are gonna stay home for awhile.

I filled up at $3.75 the other day, but most of the gas stations were priced at $3.79. I actually maxed out the pump, which is set to stop automatically at $75.00. I had to restart it to finish filling my tank.

How depressing . . .

I'm less worried about pump prices and more worried about "peak oil." There's a reason that the price of gas is going up and up and up. Well, two reasons. One, oil is a limited commodity and we've burned through all the cheap oil and recovery of crude is requiring more effort and more expense and more labor.

I posted something last week about "Crude Awakenings" which is a documentary about oil and how the low fuel light has now lit up on the world's gas gauge. Is anyone really surprised that we're running low on oil? I'm not, but I am a little worried about what our world will look like when this wonderfully cheap, portable super-powerful energy source is depleted.

People like to think that solar or wind power or alternative energy sources will provide the answer, but what are we going to do with the hundreds of millions of cars in the world? Can you really conduct your day-to-day business without a car?

The full effect of these hyperinflating gas prices have not penetrated the level of our economy - yet. That trickle down effect is going to take a few months.

The other problem we're facing is that our US dollar is sinking in value and it takes more and more dollars to buy the same amount of oil.

I'd say it's time for some prayers - for our leaders and for our scientists - to figure out what we're gonna do.

Yesterday we were averaging $3.85 here in the Panhandle. I'm afraid to look today.

$4.05 in my area of NY. I heard yesterday that oil went up to $135 per barrell. They said to prepare for gas prices to be in the $5 to $6 per gallon neighborhood. Somethins gotta give!

$389/gallon and it pi$$es me off! DD is coming with my Drewbear and I am thinking the only way we will see her and the boys the rest of the summer is if we go there. She can't afford to drive home to often. Plus now DS will be paying $80-$90 per week end to get his DD.
That is sooooooooooo far out of the ball park its sad!

I went downstate yesterday. On the way down, gas was $3.99. On the way back $4.14. Yikes, got to stop making doc appointments 90 miles south of here! I've got one more appt down there, then that is it. If I need to see a specialist they will have to come to me!!!!

Unfortunately, we have no reliable bus transportation to where I work, so I must drive. DH drives to a different location every day to earn a living. If it gets much higher, I'm going to work from home a day or two a week....the bad news is that my director resides in the UK and has little sympathy for our 'petrol' prices.

Last week it was $3.75 here.

I heard a short news clip from somewhere this morning that some businesses are considering a 4-day work week. That would be 10 four-hour days and it would be staggered among the workers. That could only work where there is a large number of employees.

My DD chose that schedule for herself where she works. This was before the gas crisis and she likes having a break in mid week.

paid $3.85 2 days ago in a pinch but have seen $3.71 at one place. i have 2 other co-workers living in my immediate area and we are talking about commuting together. only problem is that i never get out before 6-7pm during spring and they can leave at 4:30pm. hopefully our crazy spring shipping is slowing a bit and we can all make it work and i can get done by 4:30pm. i did hear predictions on financial news that gas will be $6 by end of summer and possibly $8 by dec 08. i am seriously thinking of having to buy a hybrid and just use my SUV on weekends.

this gas thing is really something that we just have to accept. it isn't like we have enough of our own oil supply so we must pay the current rate. we can't exactly tell someone else what they can sell a desperately needed commodity for LOL. ~ liz

It's around $3.79 where I live,but it's .21¢ a gallon cheaper about 8 miles from me. We like to fill up there, in Missouri.

I use it all the time to monitor prices, especially for traveling. When I'm out working (I travel around town for work) I can check the area of town where gas is cheaper. It can be as much as 50¢/gal difference! I keep an image on my link page so it's refreshed often. Kudos to everyone who takes the time to contribute to it!

$3.66 here when I filled up a couple hours ago.

$3.87 here in Minot ND, but many of us have 5c off coupons from the stores. But then, I think it has been/is/will be/higher in Canada and that is for a liter.
Question: Why won't "they" allow us (in ND) to complete the refinery they authorized, got permits for, etc and then stopped: yep it is on a Reservation, but with the amount of oil in this state, it would help a bit!

Once we decided that we ARE taking this trip to Maine no matter what gas prices are, I don't really want to know--because they'll be higher when we leave in a few weeks than they are now. And they'll be higher where we're going than where we live. And they'll be higher when we get back than they are when we leave.

ECONOMIC STIMULATORS. That's what we are! Just doing our part to help the economy. LOL!

$4.17/gal at the Mobil stations here in the northwest corner of CT. Monday it was at 4.04/gal. Tuesday morning...$4.17/gal arrived and hasn't left....a 13 cent increase in less than 24 hrs. I want to see what it is on Tuesday morning...after the holiday weekend. Sigh.

I'm in Northern Ontario Canada and today gas is $1.31 a litre which is about $5.24 gal.

We ran out to Santa Cruz this morning and drove past this gas station on our way back out to the central valley. I know this is just because of the holiday weekend. What a ripoff. It was $3.89 just the other day. DH said "It's a conspiracy!!"

We paid $3.89 a gallon here today. Filled DH's truck and it was $91 and change for just over 23 gallons. And the big oil companies are making billions in profits. Ridiculous!!!

$3.79 today and I filled up the truck - a smooth $75.00 and it wasn't totally empty.......Sheesh!

Cheapest prices near us are $3.69, though no stations close enough to bother. I'd spend more driving there than I would in a savings difference. Stations near the house were $3.89 today. It's worrisome for sure. And the grocery prices are getting out of control around near us! I find myself many times just getting the things I need, versus what I want.
We have cut back on some things we like, like eating out a few times a week. Now it's more like once every other week for dinner and maybe once a week for an inexpensive lunch.

But looking at the prices near some of you I guess I should be thankful.

$3.93 was the cheapest I saw today. I paid $3.92 at Kroger with 3 cents off per gallon, because it was on my way home.

OMG...I was just going to post about this! I just went past the gas station closest to us..a fe wblocks away and it has gone up to 4.26 per gallon! For the cheap stuff! It has always been around 3.98 for the last few weeks. the other corner had it for 4.09. DS just called and said the one by his house actually came down a penny from yesterday, it's now 3.97! This guy will most likely have long lines all week end with lower prices. Smart thing to do..he'll sell more in the long run! I also heard that prices will go up again on Monday...probably because they know people that are out of town will need gas to get home and have to pay it!! This makes me sick! Luckily DH works within 15 minutes from home and we spend only $20.00 a week on gas right now.

This is the first I've seen over 4.00 so far....it didn't look nice at all!

I haven't seen $4 yet, but I'm sure it will be here soon. I am fortunate that I don't live too far from where I work. I am very careful about my outings. I see these huge trucks and SUVs and wonder what it must cost to fill those. Ouch!

In Milwaukee County it has been $4.19/gal/regular for over a week! Haven't checked this morning - it's probably more now.

Did you hear the oil CEO explaining to Congress this week that current oil company profits are less percentage-wise than they usually are, and that his company is "straining?" I should strain so hard.

We live in the boondocks so last year when we needed a new car we decided to buy a Toyota Prius . It was the MPG that sold us. My old car had many, many miles on it and I wasn't sure about this one. Boy! am I glad we did now, we get 50+ miles with it. Every time we go now I see more and more of these cars. The guy that sold us our car said the Toyota will have many models in Hybrids with in 5yrs. Ford and others I see are also following up.
In the U.S. we don't have mass transportation like they do in Europe. Our country is so big and so many of the sm towns have only a sm shopping choice. It is nothing to have to go 60+miles one way. I'm sure it is farther in other parts of the country.
This next year will be interesting to see what gets done and who does it.

I paid two different prices today..4.19 in Blaine, WA(Shell) (almost to the Canandian Border), just put a $20 in to get us closer to home at the Swinomish Casino(Chevron)..paid 3.87 to fill it. I usually fill up off Island at the Casino, because my van likes Chevron alot and it's the best price..sometimes Costco is a few pennies cheaper, and it doesn't mind whatever Costco has mixed for them either.
