Saw this website on CNBC a few minutes ago.

Click on your state, or enter your zipcode, and you'll get a list of several stations & their gas prices. It shows both the lowest & the highest prices.

It covers parts of Canada also.

Hmm. There is only one gas station in my zip code and it is $4.26. I can walk there from here but I always drive right past. The least expensive I have spotted is $4.09.

I prefer the Gas Buddy sites. They are updated by volunteers and can be updated several times a day. Even continually if there's enough people seeing it. It's better in the more populated areas of course, and I find it very valuable. You have control over which brands and locations are shown and you can choose how recent the info must be too. It surprisingly went down near us the past day or two. But we all know how the "supply/demand" affects prices. If we "demand" less, the price will go down... Though I'm NOT by any means trying to down play the crisis it puts many of us in when these prices get so out of control, it IS all good for the environent... It's my hope that this is a condition/habit that we all try to maintain in good times, as well as bad. We should NEVER, for the good of us all, ever be this dependent on foreign supplies (oil).

western ny - here it is 2.79 or higher some places. But the PA line is only7 miles away and theirs was 2.25 today. Big difference for just a matter of a few miles. Why is NY so much higher?

Just as a note, the 9b hardiness zones you're talking about is only winter temperatures, you probably want to look at the Sunset climate zones for areas you're looking at as it gives you a better idea of what you're looking at year round. 9b in Southern California is a completely different growing environment than 9b in Florida, and if you're living in areas with practically no winter, the hardiness zones are almost useless. Sunset climate zones are going to tell you a lot more useful information. No advice on your original question as we're planning on moving out of California (for many reasons, but cheaper land and adequate water are up there) when we're ready to start our hobby farm. I think around here (SoCal) you're looking at living way out in the desert at your price point. Which kind of defeats the purpose as it's likely too hot to grow much of what you what to grow (or too cold in the winter). Really, though, good luck. *edit* I just got curious and looked at some land around here, looks like a 4.5-5 acre lot of cleared land will run you between $225-$290k. Land you have to clear seems cheaper but still in the 150k+ range. Probably going to cost an arm and a leg to get water to it as well. Granted, this area is a prime agricultural climate - lots of commercial nurseries here - but phew. Phew.

$4.05 in my zip, but $3.99 in the next zip - same distance and an easier drive. I usually fill up at Costco & paid $3.99 there Wednesday afternoon.

O/T but FYI we paid $4.89 for gas for the boat at the marina last week - our boat has a 50 gal tank.

The cheapest listed for our town is $4.16, but that station is about 7 miles away. If I go to the Meijer in the next town, it is only 4 miles away and the gas is $4.19. But if I use my Meijer credit card I get 10 cents off per gallon thru labor day so then it is only $4.09. All Meijers are doing the 10 cents off per gallon thru Labor Day so if you have one nearby it's a great deal.

I use http://www.newjerseygasprices.com/ here. It's updated daily by real people who report in the prices they see on their commute/in their neighborhood. It's been a big help.

GasBuddy says my cheapest is $4.39, but frankly, a drive-by today reveals that $4.45 is about the cheapest. If we can gas up at Miramar's Exchange station, we try to do so.

Typing in my zip code gave me prices for the entire city of Houston, which is pretty silly since this city is huge geographically!

Looks like the cheapest is 3.79 at a station which is about 25 miles from my house. LOL But there is a station on the corner across the street from my office selling gas at 3.92 according to gasbuddy.

No gas biddy station listed for my zip code. The closest is Bakersfield at $4.39 but thatÂs down the canyon 60 miles. Here in Kernville gas is down from last week $4.76 to $4.63. I have to go down this week so I will fill up there.

I donÂt think gas prices stopped many people from coming up here. The lake was full of boats, all the camp grounds were full and the market was just crazy.
