We're looking for suggestions on maximizing the space and functionality of our most used room. What do you mean exactly by maximizing space and functionality? What do you use this room for? What do you need to make room for -- how many people, what sort of things (TV, books, crafts, games)? It would also help to have a drawing of the room with measurements. And knowing whether you regularly use the sliding door etc. What's your budget?

Can the fish tank sit on top of the record player? Those could go between the windows. Personally, I would have put the TV on the wall right of the FP where you have the whatnot shelves and would have floated the two loves in an "L" out in front of the TV/FP area. The chair and ottoman would go in the recess by the closet for a quiet reading nook. Add a bookcase and lamp to flesh that out. You can still try that arrangement, but there is not much space for seating within easy viewing distance of the TV when it is high, smushed in to the corner and adjacent to the stair area, doors and traffic path. You might seriously want to reconsider the TV placement for optimal use of the space with your current furnishings.

Really great room. Like all that natural light. Would stay with live plants and green colors (such as is in your plant art) for accessorizing -- aside from trying a few colors you particularly like as throw pillows (perhaps choose pillows that have those greens and another color). A pair of short wood bar stools could be used as plant stands on each side of the fireplace behind the chairs by the windows. You have a lot of light colored furnishings in your room. Choosing cherry wood for plant stands or side tables could add color without adding color.
