Bought house with finished basement no permits?
Comments (1)The partial finishing could have been done in the original construction- thus no separate permit. The fact that the tax office is aware lends lots of credibility to that idea. How else would they know? Typically the primary purpose of permits to finish basements is to get it on the tax books. Find out how long this has been in the tax records. In my experience, some of the county employees sitting behind desks are barely functional- mentally speaking. Why couldn't they think through this?...See MoreOur home is finished! Full reveal here!
Comments (13)Pam-lovely...so much to enjoy in those pics! I agree with akshars - so many details to pour over. The ceiling treatments and lighting and tile and.... Very very nice. Best wishes for a smooth move so you can settle in and relax with a cup of coffee taking in all that you have created and watching that new grass grow. :)...See Morevalue and loans maxed out home not finished
Comments (2)Are you sure that "being able to finish well would boost home value to a new level"? That may have been true even 10-12 months ago. But the housing market is flattening like a pancake. I don't know where you're located, but you may be surprised at how home prices have moderated or even dropped a little . If it's been a while, you may want to have some comps (re)done to see if you'll still get out of the house what you hope to. Assuming that you have not now lost value on the likely selling price, I would seriously consider what you have left to do and what must be done. Obviously functional issues need to be addressed. But "nice to haves" may wait or may never happen. You don't want to put money into this house unless you can get more than your investment out of it, and putting a short "finish-it-and-sell-it" timeline on it does not help the return on your investment. One other consideration other than a construction loan: if you're moving to a different house, what about a bridge loan? It might come cheaper; it doesn't sound like you'll need to use the money over several months....See MoreOur new house is finished! My white kitchen...
Comments (112)Nini - on your first post, you said you'd do a separate post about honed and polished marble. Pros and cons to both. Have you done that and if not, would you do one or send me an email. We have chosen statuetto white marble for our island and I plan to go with honed (after testing polished). I'd like to hear your experiences. Thanks!...See MoreAmy10N
