.... so how DO you put a wardrobe together??
Comments (48)Ms-thrifty Good insight on the special event clothing. I read this in a recent better homes and garden issue, and applied it. I have started to consciously tried to steer into special clothes that can transition down to dressy casual. And then add accessories that can work with other outfits to bring UP casual to be dressy casual. Example is my niece is getting married tonight. I bought a solid color sheath dress that goes to the knee, and a chunky colored crystal necklace. I can wear them together tonight with heels for the evening wedding. To bring the dress down to dressy casual: I can wear the dress with silver jewelry and sandles. I can add a denim jacket and flats for fall. I can wear the dress with black tights, boots, and a cardigan for a winter. I can wear the crystal necklace with a white T shirt and dark rinse jeans for dressy casual. I can do the same with a turtleneck and boots for fall/winter. So I think what I figured out with this is you need to be selective in choosing the dress so it can work up or down. And be willing to also buy that accessory to bring it up to the full dressiness of the more formal occasion....See MoreSummer wardrobe and summer plans?
Comments (48)Are there any slim feet people here? I have to share my new worlds most comfortable sandal from The Flexx shoe company. They have a stretchy section. Love! I'll be able to do lots of miles on vacation. They have a 1 1/2" heel. Here is the link at Nordstrom. It says they fit true to size but if they fit my foot perfectly they must be at least slightly narrow. Not overly though. http://m.shop.nordstrom.com/s/the-flexx-band-together-sandal/3520349?cm_mmc=google--productads--Women%3AShoes%3ASandals_Slides-_-909074&rkg_id=h-77242275352e1500631745f06a4fef51_t-1496187451&adpos=1o1&creative=145503081341&device=m&network=g&gclid=COHMpszkmNQCFVMGhgod5ccBrg...See MoreWalk-in Closet - or larger master bath and wardrobe
Comments (19)Loving the thoughts, and I’ve been battling so many different ideas here. The master at the back has been intriguing, as the ceiling would be easy to vault above that side, and could open up the space as well. To the previous comments, this house has a basement that I can easily open the basements, so plumbing on the right side would remain a straight through path if I keep it aligned. The laundry room variation is a great thought, although it would make me somewhat uncomfortable as the “kids” bathroom needs to be usable for visitors needing to go... we decided against a kids bathtub, as baths are supervised while they are young, or earlier in the evening as they get older (I really don’t see the point of a bath... but my wife insist on a freestanding one). I’ll have finalized measurements on Monday, and will take these design thoughts back into a new diagram. Your feedback has been awesome!...See MoreWalk-in Closet vs. Nice Built-In Wardrobes in New Build in Houston?
Comments (29)I’d do the walk-in but think about how you can repurpose that space for your use now. Just because it says ‘walk-in closet’ on the plan, it doesn’t mean that’s all you need use it for. Put built-ins for your clothes and then use the rest of the space in the room for a cozy sitting area, or add a small ‘morning kitchen’ type space where you can keep what you need to make a morning or evening drink. With so many people working different hours I think no separate dressing area at all could be a real issue if you ever need to sell. (If you really don’t want it then I’d at least try to keep a room next to the bedroom that could be turned into a closet if someone so prefers in the future, just by putting in a doorway.) ETA: We’re looking at moving to a house that has a not-very-large walk-in closet and I’m pondering a combination of closet and built-ins. The closet has a window, also, so I’m thinking to even put built-ins in there so everything has protection from the sun without needing to have the blind closed all the time. However one reason I think this will likely work okay for us is our wardrobes tend to fit into categories anyway - work clothes versus casual versus lounge versus for-messy-stuff versus specialized sports items, etc. So no one category of stuff is terribly large, which means all of my work clothes should fit in one area of a wardrobe, so I will be able to see it all by opening just one set of doors. I think it would be much more annoying to have to go between multiple areas to put together a single outfit because tops are here, skirts over there, sweaters elsewhere again, etc....See MoreBluebell66
