Need photos of honey oak cabinet w/ vintage pewter oak flooring
Comments (6)First things first: make sure you can PURCHASE more of the Pergo. And then, just for fun, make sure this is the Pergo that is water RESISTANT. If it is NOT, then do not run this in the kitchen. And if you have it in a FULL bath (shower/tub) then I recommend you look at a different floor - in the next 5 years. So, now that you have established it IS the water resistant Pergo AND you can STILL PURCHASE the product, you can decide if the colour clash with your cabinets will be worth it. Traditionally grey toned wood (like the Pergo) does NOT look very happy with orange toned wood (like oak cabinets finished in an oil based finish commonly referred to as "honey oak"). This clash can be reduced by working with a DARK GRAY counter top (a counter that is SPECIFICALLY chosen to match the Pergo). So....that brings us the the next question: what is your counter top? And then we move to "When do you want to renovate the kitchen?" If you have a kitchen renovation in your future (next 7 years or less) then you will want to hold off on any further decisions. When looking at new kitchen flooring, people find out very quickly how much they want a new kitchen. And by the time they get to renovating the kitchen, they either have to rip out the flooring (because they are changing the foot print) or they feel STUCK with a floor colour that dictates their colour scheme...and thereby feel cheated in someway because their floor doesn't let them chose the kitchen of their dreams. Whew. So much to be decided. All for a floor that probably won't work with the current cabinets/counters. Of course I could be wrong...especially if you have a stunning gray soap stone counter top. That would look STUNNING with the Pergo. But first, photos of what exists...just to be sure....See MoreHelp - honey oak threw up in my kitchen.
Comments (82)paint will be your most cost effective way, especially if the kitchen is of good quality! Do white tops and a gray/blue lowers and i really think i would like to have a kitchen like it then....I did that for our house, and the kitchen is way outdated, but every comments on the colour scheme. The white counter will look sharp after you paint the lowers darker! All the best!...See MoreWhat flooring should I use for my kitchen next to honey oak hardwood?
Comments (9)Do choose your overall look for the kitchen, thinking about what component will be hardest/most expensive to change if you start to dislike it. I wouldn't put wood look vinyl or tile next to natural hardwood - I just don't like the way they look next to each other - although overall, I think wood look tile is a great look. So, I would be looking for a natural stone look tile or vinyl - stay far away from tile with a pinkish undertone, and choose one that matches the overall warmth (ie cool colors vs warm colors) of the rest of the adjacent spaces. That will be about as "timeless" as you can get. Sometimes the classic black & white square look doesn't fit the character of the rest of the house, sometimes it is perfect - so keep that in mind, too....See More90s Honey Oak Kitchen Refresh Help Needed
Comments (5)If your goal is to lighten up the house, avoid adding dark things to the already dark rooms. Add lighting, remove heavy dark window coverings, and check outside to see if there are branches that have grown to block sunlight from the windows. Pruning at the right time of year for your area can let in much needed light again. Start by replacing the light fixtures to improve the overall "dark and brown" look. Remove the over-sink bar cabinets. Paint the walls. Staining the cabinets can't be done well without stripping them, sanding, filling, staining, sanding, and so on. Contact the cabinet company with photos of the damaged areas. Ask them what clear coat can be applied over the existing finish. Chances are good that a clear polyurethane over a bit of stain pen will fix up those worn areas easily....See Morenicoletouk
