They are the chairs. The counter stools and bar stools were discontinued over 4 months ago. I have emailed every company and called John Greenleaf and there are NONE to be had. That is exactly the one I wanted. My dining room chairs are from Thomasville Cabot House called the color cafe and they are an exact match. So I have one vote for black, anyone else have any ideas? Thanks, I just took some pictures of my kitchen and family room and hall, now I just have to learn to post. I feel like I OWE so much to this Garden Web. They were my inspiration for so many things.

My architect/designer sez these days Granite prices lower than nearly all the other solid surfaces and contributes to its popularity espec if u r not looking for esoteric colors. Marble, which i have alot of in our offices for multiple conf and other tables, even in a dark shade, is "delicate" in the sense that it is brittle and can crack etc, and in a lite color maintenance is brutal b/c it will stain (not an issue with, say, a dark wine color marble like we have but it does crack). I have seen some Granite Tiles used where costs need trimming and when done in larger tiles, and done well and creatively, the look is acceptable and grout lines minimal. So you may be able to compromise in one area this way...it is the long lengths of granite that set you back. Soapstone is a joy b/c of the touch, and if you like it oiled up black, stains not an issue. Natural colors of soapstone are lovely but we have only used that in dining area cabinet tops in bar-like areas...and natural is not good for kitchen. (It also is great in bathrooms, even flooring b/c it isnt slippery). But soapstone is a more old-fashioned/colonial like look...not slick and modern My favorite for counters is Stainless Steel!!! installed in 1993 i still love it. But i would then warm up the look by having the island be done in something else. Also St.Steel with dark wood cabs really look warm and approachable.

Do you sew? The bases of those stools work, it's just the backs with their swirls that aren't working. I would attempt to slip cover the backs of your existing stools before going out and spending $900 on new stools. If it's the black metal you don't like, a can of spray paint will fix that. It's taken me YEARS to find new stools since my kitchen reno. We even built a new house and moved, so I've been looking for new stools through 2 new kitchens. I finally bought some, and I'm not in love. Ugh. BTW, that last picture is nice looking, but I got a couple to try them out in my new house, and they're AWFUL, So uncomfortable. I took the back off, and it's an improvement, in that it allows you to sit further back. But now it doesn't have a back on it. They are now backup stools for when we have company.

Thanks everyone for your help. I appreciate getting the low-down on the different price points and quality. I stopped at PB on Sat to look at drapes. I spoke with an associate about barstools. They didn’t have upholstered ones on display, but they had the chair versions. They were comfortable and nice but I wasn’t thrilled with their wood either...and those chairs were on sale for about $650.+ tax + delivery. Yeah, I had seen the C&B leather ones online. A good price point and seems like an excellent value. But for me the look feels too contemporary for my bungalow. (Also, ‘cuz I’m a vegetarian, I try to avoid leather if there is a reasonable alternative. Obviously, no one here would know that). A lot of rattan ones are cute but I want upholstered counter stools. On Sun a friend stopped over and looked at the whole room (Outside, from the french doors, lol) and thought the stools looked good with everything else. (Previously she gave the thumbs down to things she thought didn’t work). She thought the solid blue looked good with the Blue and white statement backsplash, and that the light colored wood legs gave a bit of beachy feel. I also have a cute little bistro set in the nook, so I don’t need everything to be the focal point. So I think I’m going to call it a day and keep these for now. It’s been a long year and I‘m not excited about spending $2000+ for a pair of counter stools. Maybe if I get sick of these in a couple of years, I can spring for new one and sell these on craigslist, Thanks again! Onward! (Time to finish hanging the art in my house).
