honed vs polished marble floors in bathroom?
Comments (6)Another reason to get honed instead of polished marble is that when certain bathroom items (mouthwash, toothpaste, hairspray, creams--and for little boys, urine mis-aims) land on marble, they will etch the marble. With a polished finish, the etching will be obvious. With honed, you will hardly be able to see it if at all. I have marble floor tiles in my bathroom. They're not slippery cause they are smaller tiles than the 12x12 you are considering. As you mentioned, the frequency of the grout for the smaller tiles creates a non-slippery surface. I really like my marble floor. Also, the veins and coloration in the marble hide dirt or hair. In my other bathroom, I have white tile floors. The worst. Basically if you just walk in there, and one single hair falls, or you make one drip, it shows up glaringly on the white tile....See MoreMix of polished and honed crema marfil on bathroom floor
Comments (3)The other thought is that they could polish the whole floor to a honed finish before they grout it of course. On their dime. But if the tiles are from a different source of stone it probably wont look good. I know, what are people thinking?! I'm always amazed! Pull the tiles. Edited to say: I know nothing of polishing tiles. and I just spouted - to have the tiles polished before grouting - but heck, I don't know. Maybe it would be better after grouting. I think I was considering that if the polishing was done before grouting, you could stop refinishing if it didn't look right, before all the effort went into the grouting process too. Comments (8)These are all very good thoughts! I’ve been looking on Facebook Market and Craigslist for used vanities or floor sample sale items, and I’ll continue to do that. We’ve been by a couple of warehouses that have items from demolition, but nothing has quite worked yet. Habitat for Humanity May be a good place to look though - we haven’t been there! For removing the shower door, I didn’t think of that for a full shower. Can that be done? I figured doors were necessary, and my husband didn’t like the idea of just covering the doors with a shower curtain. Getting rid of it could be good.. I think changing out the mirror, light and paint could be the first step to take sooner than later. Complication to white is that this tile is cream colored. See this pic to see the difference... still neutral at least! I think I can move forward with navy and gold accents, right?...See MoreRelated Professionals
