Suggestions for decorating my master bedroom
Comments (21)I tried the bed with two side tables at an angle, but it didn't really work. Something about the distance between the large window and wall, and the width of the bed just didn't work. I could never get the angle to where it felt comfortable to look at. It also left a huge gap in the triangular area between the headboard and walls. It caused the trunk to be just a few feet from the entrance and the pathway from the entrance into the bathroom seemed cramped and awkward. So, it will have to be near where it is now. But I'm intrigued with the suggestion that I could move the bed over to where it was partially under the window. I have been diligently trying to keep it perfectly centered between the small window and the wall, even though that means I don't get a table. Because I thought that was what one should do. I would love to have a bedside table on my side. What you don't see is a foot stool providing storage for my chapstick, water, reading material, and extra pair of socks in case my feet get cold. And shutters??!! For the love of cabbage, people, I absolutely adore shutters, but didn't think they would work in that room. Shutters!! I also found a rug in Pottery barn that combines a version of the warm reds and yellows with the cooler blues and greens. I think this color mix will work, but it needs to be the right shades. http://www.potterybarn.com/products/brant-rug/?pkey=cpersian-style-rug-shop Also, if you will turn with me to p.152 of your January 2011 Pottery Barn catalog that offers Comfortable Style and a whites sale, you will see a photo of pillows at the bottom left of the page. I'm liking these colors and thinking of them with lots of neutrals. I'm warming up to the idea of the cottage look with lots of whites/neutrals, but still not sure about white slipcovers and all the white. It seems like it could look like a bunch of ghosts live here and left their outfits laying around the house. Maybe I need to look at more pictures. Also, on the all white with one color thing...is it one color for the whole house or does each room get a different color? And how would you avoid people from referring to different rooms as the "Red" room or the "Yellow" room or the "Blue" room? Two other questions... Given all the doors, which I am beginning to accept must be painted or replaced (Painting furniture made from hardwoods makes me sad, but I now see that I can't leave them as they are) would some type of wainscoting be too much action for this room? This is my grandmother's iron bed that is in an upstairs guest room. Would it be a candidate for our room, or do I need wood? Or possibly something upholstered? The iron bed does accept a standard mattress, you just have to beat and shoehorn it in there. The footboard is the same, but, of course shorter. It's brass-colored with the paint flaking off and will need to be repainted. Upholstered like this: http://www.potterybarn.com/shop/furniture-upholstery/bedroom-ideas/?cm_type=lnav The third room idea which is also found on p.18-19 in the January PB catalog....See MoreIs this bedroom set too massive for my bedroom? Comments (51)Believe it or not, decent looking ceiling fans exist. On every design show I've ever seen they're the first things to be thrown out, but I have them in every bedroom. Mmm slight draft at night without the sound of floor fan... I pspent no fewer than 18 weeks looking (off and on) for a "pretty" one to go in my master. I have lived with a 4 poster bed. My experience - unless you have really high ceilings, and I'm talking like 10 ft, and a sizeable room, it will turn your space into... tiny. Once upon a time in a previous life I thought I had a big bedroom until I put a poster bed in there. I like your computer nook. I always wanted a space like that, which I could separate from the rest of the room with some romantic drapery tied back. I might force that idea on my formal dining room. :) beds/headboards coverin ga window do bother me. I don't like anything to cover a window (couch, table, or otherwise) -- but that's just me. And if it came down to a queen bed, or covering that window, sure - the window would get covered! We have single panels on our two bedroom windows, mostly because they're skinny and it looked silly to me to have two panels. If you need to cover the window, something that seems to help (at least when I've seen it done) is to pull the bed away from the wall a foot or so. Then you can go with two panels, and it looks kind of intentional instead of "didn't have space." Something else to keep in mind with blocking windows -- does the sun come directly in such that it would fade your bedding over time?...See MoreNeed suggestions for bedding for my bedroom set!
Comments (7)I'd like to see a pinch pleat curtain with this bedroom set. I have JC Penny pinch pleat curtains with a cloth tab behind the pleats. You just slip them on the rods. Do you have the rods mounted above the windows? You can go with a high mount and longer curtains for a dramatic look. Also a darker pewter grey will pick up the color of the headboard. Agreeing with reitz this is a very casual look for your room. I'd add lights to the bedside tables. It will soften the room considerably. Or consider a wall sconce above the tables to keep the top clear. They need to be tall to keep up with the height of the headboard. This was a very nice gift, and I'm sure you will have many happy years with the furniture. What about a little "glam" for the accents?...See MoreLooking for pillow suggestions for my master bedroom
Comments (9)That’s a pretty bed, what size is it? What are some colors you like? Are you planning on adding any other bedding? This is using sleeping pillows, two Euro shams, and one decorative in front (lumbar style). This one, they stack the sleepers behind the decorative ones: A simpler one: Jck posted lots of placement ideas … how many pillows would you prefer? I have a lot on my bed — four king pillows, two kings in shams, two smaller square velvet ones, one lumbar. But we use them for reclining in bed, sleeping, etc, so need that many. Google ’bedding ideas’ and lots of great images come up that might provide inspiration. With your room having warm wood and cool colors around it, I’d get warmer toned colors for pillows, bring in some color. But that’s just me, you may want everything more monochromatic. I don’t know your budget, but some good places to find pillows (personal experience): Etsy, West Elm, Pottery Barn, and even Ama-zon....See MoreGargamel
