I came to work on my day off so I can use the computer. To come to work on your day off just to use the computer shows you how addicting computers are. What in the world did I do before I had one!!! Thanks for the help and offers to loan me one. You guys rock! No one could have better friends. My computer got a trogan horse. I want to try and buy a laptop Apple with Mac. I've heard that they don't get the viruses that others using Windows do. I don't know much about computers but I've had a worm on mine and another worldwide bug in the past 3 years so I want to try and locate one that is safer. My puter was old so I need a new one anyway. Rick, who besides Apple uses the Mac program? I sure miss you guys. P.S. you'd think my house would be clean now that I have all this free time. LOL

IF the guy is legit and doing a real business he will expect you to ask for references, people doing business out of their homes must expect that, I would check some references. That is not a guarantee of course. You can have dishonest people working at a big box store as easily as you can someone working from home. All the geeksquad horror stories I have read online keep me far far away from that place and those like it, I know people that have worked there and they are told one thing FORMAT it and get it done. In some cases formatting is the best answer but not always. I would delete completely any links you currently have set up to your bank that way you won't have an easy guide to where you bank on there. Clear out your cache on your browser and you history etc so it won't be as easy to see where you have been going. When you take it in have him give you a ticket showing that you did give him your pc with your pc info on it so that you have some proof later that you actually did give this guy your pc. I am sure he is legit but it is up to you to protect yourself. and if it does come down to formatting make some plan as to how your information will be backed up and not just lost. Just because your pc won't run windows does not mean it won't run, one way to get to a hard drive and salvage the info is to use a free linux live cd, it is put in the cd drawer and the pc is booted to linux from the cd once the pc is up in linux it is possible to use the linux operating system to go into your files and folder on the windows operating system and copy them. Genes, no, I don't use hibernation or sleep or stand by. Let me run this thought through y'all. About the time the computer decided it didn't want to do internet, we had Comcast to come out to check why we got nothing but tiles. While he was here, he took note that we have five TV's and was using several splitters. He unhooked/uninstalled one of the tvs and it got rid of the tiles. Could the splitters have anything to do with this problem? What is such a riddle to me is, why does one computer work on the Ethernet and the other one will not? Hmmmmmm? I've had another AT&T technician back to the house and he found nothing and I took it back to the computer guy and they, again, found nothing. The AT&T guy did suggest hooking up a router and using that. What's the general thought on that idea?
