My computer won't boot

I am trying to make my computer boot a while back it kept crashing while I was on it and so I took it to a computer shop and they guy said that the video card was going out and that I would need to replace it soon recently the computer started crashing right after it was turned on so I bought the new video card and it was still doing the same thing and now after a while it is going to the page that says verifying DMI pool and then nothing that's it what could be wrong? Please help my computer is a emachines ET1161 desk top

Sounds like you need to remove the new video card and get it booting up. Then try installing the new card and its drivers again.

DMI is Desktop Management Interface... dmi is sort of the middle man for the bios and is telling windows what the hardware is. If you haven't had DMi error before, the main suspect would be the new video card.

So the problem does not seem to be the motherboard, you have a signal onscreen. Is the replacement motherboard identical to the one that failed? Did you simply pop the hard drive back in with the original Windows install on it? Do you have the CD that came with the newer mobo? (If not the drivers will be available online but expect slow downloads fro the Asus site if you use them) Have you tried putting the XP CD in the drawer and doing a repair to see if this will overcome the issues? Remember if you do this you will need to download and install every update and patch issued since the CD was created.

Well if the mobo was replaced a month ago we should be able to eliminate Frys. Did you remove the left side panel and see if the fan over the CPU heatsink was spinning? If you are comfortable inside the case then remove the power cord from the back of the tower, remove the side again and look to see if the heatsink is fastened tightly to the CPU. Rest an arm on the metal case while gently trying to move the heatsink. Strangely I recently read an article about a broken heatsink retaining bracket. If the heatsink is loose this could well cause the computer not to start as the built in safety factor will kick in preventing you from burning out the CPU or processor. While you are inside take a look at the 20 or 24 pin power connector coming from the power supply to the motherboard to ensure that is seated and the retaining clip is in place. Restart with the side off to watch the fan plus see if the LED lights on the front of the case light up at all.

"F2 for setup and F12 for boot options." Are you saying you get this far and the computer REBOOTS by itself, if that is the case you start to consider a power issue here. How many files did the user want to save? Where are the 2 recovery disks that should have came with the pc, or does it have a recovery partition that you would have an option for after hitting F12 if you get that far. If you slave the drive run your options scan disk, check disk ect, the go to the manfactures site of the hard drive an run there tests on the drive. I wonder if you can get recovery disks from Dell for the 2400 series?

Ok so you mean remove the video card and see if it will boot up then install the video card again. I know how to take the card out and put the card in but I don't know how to install the card and the drivers maybe that's the problem I thought I could take the old one off and put the new one on and that's it

info says the emachine may have a nvidia geforce 6150se onboard video capability.

ok I finally got my computer to come on I had to reinstall windows the problem not is that most of the space is taken up even though theres nothing in programs when I go into the program files there are two folders new and the old folders from before my computer wouldn't come on how do I remove the old folders safely and how do I know which ones will affect my computer.

Almost 100GB free... that's more than ample free space. Might leave the windows.old for couple weeks. If you are missing some document or pictures .. you can open windows.old and probably find it.

To remove Windows.Old go to Administrative Tools in control panel.. Right click and run as administrator the Disk Cleanup. It will give you check boxes to select stuff,, one will be for the old operating system.
