Computer won't boot

Dell Dimension4600

XP SP1

I just installed an IOGEAR Bluetooth to USB Adapter and was able to connect to my cell phone and transfer some files yesterday. However, this morning I could not get the files to transfer. I attempted to reboot my computer and it would not reboot.(all I got was a blinking cursor in upper left corner of screen) After the 3rd attempts, I received the following error message:

Previous attempst at booting this system have failed at checkpoint [USBd) for help in resolving this problem, please note this checkpoint and contact Dell Technical Support.

Hoping to solve this without calling Dell...(shudder)...But I have my doubts.....

I walked away to plant some flowers and lo and behold!!!!....when I came back to the computer is had booted up.....I just hope I don't have any more problems in the future. Guess I will call IOGEAR and see if they know what is going on...(they have always had great customer support when I call or email.)...Thanks

Drat the luck! Iwas hoping you would have to call tech support at DELL. Or anyplace for that matter. Grady

It looks like it works, but know one can tell until the time comes to actually use it. I would certainly try it if I found myself in that situation.

Ok thought I would post an update to give you a laugh for the day. Now I know some about computers as I learn stuff from boards like these and my guess is getting into control panel might have fixed it and if not I would have pushed the button to refomrat and take it to out of the box state. So my friends husband who knows nothing decided to fix it this weekend for her. His idea was to go to best buy and ask the geek squad. He expalined exactly what was wrong and you know what they told him? The only way to fix it was to buy a $200 copy of windows and put it right over top. I kid you not so that is what he came home and did to solve it. Personally pushing the button to take it to out of the box state which is free would have been a lot cheaper in my opinion but what do I know. Then her wireless did nto work after as what ever he did the drivers went missing so we got those from the toshiba site. She now has windows old and windows new it says on the computer. Hey at least he tried to help. I just don't understand why the geek squad would have said that and they didn't even say reformat or repair install or anything she said they just told him to plop it in and install right over top. I thought that was not recommended or have things changed? Mary

I just turned my computer on for the first time today, Tuesday. The first time the hard drive light stayed on for a second and turned off. The second time the hard drive light flickered 3 times and then went off. The third time the hard drive light came on solid and then flickered 3 times and then the black screen came up saying "We apologize for the inconvenience but Windows did not start successfully....." But then Windows proceeded to load and my computer is now working. I do not hear any beeping sounds. I'd appreciate any more ideas you have with this information. I am taking a video of the lights blinking with my iPhone which makes it easy to remember what happened. Thanks, Ginny

Well, you guys aren't gonna believe this, cause I didn't. I figured out the problem - an iPod! What does an iPod have to do with anything? My mother-in-law has an iPod and she uses a little charger that plugs into a USB port on the front of my PC. Yesterday, while the PC was running, she came and plugged the iPod in - no problem. But, when I attempted to boot up - problem. On a whim, I decided to unplug the iPod and see what happened, because that was the only difference between yesterday and today. Sure enough, with the iPod unplugged, the PC booted just fine. Plugged it back in and the PC won't finish the boot process. Anyone else ever heard of this before?

I think it may happen again when you boot up. Sometimes it takes a long time and they finally boot as there is some error it is dealing with. Probably a driver associated with the new installation. You might want to do some web searching while it is working so you're ready at the next boot.

After I plug in my GBU221 USB Adapter with Bluetooth wireless technology, I can't start up my computer?

Please check if your USB port supports the industry standard version. If not, please unplug the USB Adapter, restart your computer, then plug the USB Adapter again. If after these procedures, you still can't start the computer, it might be the hardware problem of your USB port, and please check with your hardware suppliers.
