FOAS is right -- the answer to the question is both yes (sort of, and probably in the way you're thinking, blfenton); and no. And speaking of sports, FOAS, D1 is sports related.

C2 and D2 have me stumped.

Oh my goodness I’m such an idiot. I literally had my finger on D1 earlier but mixed something up. I’ll explain after the solution is given.

This leaves me with just B1. Like bpath, several things come to mind but no single one stands out as definitely being the right answer.

Think a mathematical symbol.....relating to a circle (hope that is not giving away too much)

It looks like a sawhorse to me, but that does not make sense.

I keep looking at A2 wondering how it can be related to baseball and I don't see it.

Canadians might have trouble with understanding the baseball clue reference in A2. And possibly have trouble with D1.

I got A2. There are, in my mind, three parts to A2 and I got two of the parts then solved the third part.

Thanks for clarifying the symbol in D2 - I thought it was an oil rig symbol - haha! Maybe it would be clearer on my computer vs my phone.

Anyway…..got it now. Now just need to solve C2.

I still don't have B1 or C2. The states don't make sense to me.

Yeah I don’t get the states either. I can come up with ideas but nothing that’s a common enough term to be a compelling answer.

ETA - The second I hit ”submit” I came up with something I’m comfortable with. Now to ride out a long, rainy day waiting for Jasdip to get off work and post answers.

Anyone need hints yet? I’ll be happy to try to come up with obscure hints that don’t help at all.

So my Vols story. I was looking at it and specifically thought about Volunteers, but then thought it couldn’t be as they’re not from South Carolina. Wasn’t until much later that I slowly read ”10, S, C” that I realized what I had messed up.

As for B1, my first guess was ”mixed up states” but it didn’t seem good enough. When I finally came up with ”altered” I was immediately convinced.

Got them all with help from Husband on D1. I could see Tennessee but didn’t understand vols. He explained it to me.💕

Well, I had ”Pedestrian Walk-Up” for A1. Wrong answer right off the bat lol!

For B1, I had all kinds of similar answers to altered states, like, states of confusion, addled states, states of disarray, states of disrepair, and so on.

Oops, my mistake. I read one of your comments about there being a similar one a few weeks ago and then you mentioned church. I remembered the puzzle with ”mass” in it and thought that was the one you meant. Anyhooo, it threw me for a loop but then I saw we were both on the same wavelength with alter/altar.

Upton Sinclair wrote a book called ”The Jungle” about dirty jobs done by immigrants in meat packing plants. That was my comment about sani wipes and it being a jungle out there.😁

Ah, I was trying to come up with a Jungle clue but I guess I’m not as flexible as you - good stretch! 😂

I don’t remember a ton about that book but one part that stuck with me was the kid with the frozen ear. Boss rubbed it to warm it up and it broke off. I always think of that when my ears get super cold.

I got some hard ones and missed easy ones like poison ivy and I have some on my leg.

I have never heard of Upton Sinclair either, so never would have gotten that one.

I finally got Altered States because of the reference to church and the previous puzzle (I think it was United States). Mixed up States kept rolling through my mind too.

My first guess for A1 was 'pedestrian sidewalk', but then decided that was redundant, 'pedestrian crosswalk' made more sense.

For some dumb reason or another it took me longer to realize that B1 was names of states than it took me to figure out the answer.

And I feel like I should have gotten C2, but I didn't. I just couldn't get past the word 'snot' , and when I made myself read it as 'tons', I had 'tons of clean air'. Knew that had to be wrong, but was the best I could come up with.

And no way I'd ever get D1, I didn't even get the Tennessee part.

Nor did I realize the symbol in D2 was Pi. When it was given as a hint, I got it right away. Although it still seems like it is incomplete, should have a building or something with it.

So once again, I got all but two. Guess maybe that's not too bad. . . . . .

Never did figure out B1 or C2. Wow - the Upton Sinclair clue is tricky! I do know who he was and I still never guessed it. He wrote lots of other books, and also ran for gov. of CA.

I had 'down home' for B3, and I did guess Tennessee Volunteers after I figured out Tennessee and looked it up, but the 'vols' part seemed a bit odd to me.

Honestly, that pi symbol is barely recognizable as such, but I did guess the answer after seeing reassurances that it really is supposed to be that letter. My first impression was that it's pi, but then I looked closer and doubted it.

P.S. I got hung up on 'snot' in C2 😄

I missed B2 -- on my first spin through, I automatically said "built for 2" and quickly moved on, never going back to it. Now of course I realize that was wrong and the correct answer is what fits. I got everything else (once I was clued in on the pi symbol), so I guess that's pretty good.
