My MIL has a similar layout as your family/kitchen/dining areas and she has her kitchen/dining all the same colors, since they're really not huge rooms it looks better than 2 different colors in there. Then her family room is a shade or two lighter likely on the same swatch but I don't konw for sure. They both happen to be green. I don't know the colors you speak of specifically, I'm not to that point yet, but I think I'd be tempted to make the dining nook area the same color as the kitchen, and then go from there but make the family room a complimentary color since they're so open to each other.

The tans, beiges and browns are an unappealing color zone for me. Not only are they overdone (half out state!) they are the colors of waste and decay. But LIGHTER body color? I don't think that's a good idea if your scheme will include lighter trim, such as white. IMO the dark trims bring gloom in comparison to white trim which looks clean and cheerful. As a body color I'd lean to the medium grey/taupe tones. There are 1,000 as they can take on a cast of variety of colors, except yellow.. Search Google Images for "grey houses," "taupe houses" and you will see a lot of variation.

Really nice home. Glad you're not contemplating painting the brick. Just a thought; Sometime before you redo your roof, you might consider creating a porch -- open or screened or sun room -- on one side of the back of your home so you have the option of either porch or patio for indoor/outdoor living/entertaining. Your siding choice suggests you're planning on brown/tan roofing in the future? Your trim appears to indicate you're matching the current gray roof? Though I like the colors you're considering, I'm not sure they'll go great together and, as a pairing, I like your current colors better-- and your current colors go really well with both the brick and the roof. For siding and trim, my personal preference, unless there is a reason to go with white or black, is to use two shades of the essentially same color -- often (depending upon the colors being used -- especially if one color is really dark) with the darker color being the trim so as to not darken the vibe of the home too much.
