Tifgrand Bermuda Sod Turning Brown

Darren Hughes

I laid a pallet of Tifgrand Bermuda 4 weeks ago and began watering daily. (It is patchy because there are particular areas I needed it more than others—I’ve put seed around it and it’s doing fine). The sod adhered to the soil within a week. I’ve used some high nitrogen fertilizer a couple of times. I waited till it got 3 inches high, then 4 days ago, I lightly used my weedeater to trim it thinking my lawnmower might be too much for it. It was brown underneath where I cut and is only looking worse over the past few days. I am in Eastern NC where it has been pretty consistently in the 90s. We’ve had no rain in a week. Am I overwatering or underwater if? I see conflicting thoughts on this. Some have suggested I should use a fungicide. How do I know which route to go? Is it beyond saving?
