Tile Floor Grout Joint Size Issue

K S

We recently hired a contractor to install brand new wood look ceramic tile in our whole house. The tile is Interceramic Black Forest in Kandel Brown and it’s 47” x 7.5”. We had seen some inspiration floor using this exact tile where the joints were 1/16”. We really wanted this to look as close to wood as possible and the contractor sold us on tile because we could get the joints that small. Well, once they started the install, we noticed the joints were quite large. Our contractor informed us that the tile company recommends joints no smaller than 1/8”. While weren’t thrilled, we agreed that we needed to stick to the guidelines. Well, recently, we discovered that the spacers they used are actually 3/8” leaving the joint nearly 1/4” wide. That is posing a larger issue since they already grouted using a poly blend I sanded grout that is made for joints “up to 1/8””. Our contractor is fighting us tooth and nail, and we don’t know what a reasonable path forward is on this. We were also disappointed that they didn’t use a leveler on the slab or any leveling guides when installing the actual tile. Photos are attached and any recommendations or shared experiences are greatly appreciated!
