The shutters should be removed or doubled in size but really double windows should not have shutters I liked the black better except it would it would be nice for the garage door to have some windows so to match the new front door would be perfect.

The Rockport looks amazing with the stone. And, you're right, the stucco should also be Rockport. Totally worth the time, trouble and money.

I really like the garage color with the stone. Painting the stucco to match the garage door would look great.

Romabio color matches masonry paint for you; don't just use house paint on the stone.

The OP isn't painting the stone, just the stucco, in which case you can use house paint.

Sorry if I misunderstood, but you don't like the green tint of the Rockport. But you want to use MORE of it, because you have a lot leftover?

I actually quite like how the Rockport looks on the garage. I just don’t like how it looks green against the grey stucco.

I think painting the stucco Rockport to match the garage is probably the best thing to do.

Just have to decide if the shutters stay. I’ve heard a lot of people say they don’t look right.

There are rules about functional shutters then there's the practicality of shutters that don't function.

I think you need them for balance because the lower half is - I don't want to say busy - but there's more stuff happening on the lower half than the upper. And if you lose the shutters, the stuff on the bottom half could be emphasized even more.

And it's very possible that the old stucco color is making the Rockport more greenish. When you swap out the old color, that greenishness could very well dissipate quite a bit.

The part that bothers me the most, is looking at the big white bay window. Its the first thing seen when looking at the picture. I would definitely have to paint that. The rest looks fine to me.

You will need to take the shutters down to paint the stucco anyway, so you can decide then whether or not to put them back. Once you paint the stucco to match the garage, you could paint the shutters white. It would make the front door stand out more in contrast, and the white shutters/windows would balance out the white you have on the lower window area.

I like the garage doors black. but they do need glass as patricia says. Do not care for the green tone paint at all with what you have going on. don’t think painting the stucco is going to improve

I agree with keeping the shutters.

Your house's proportions would look better if the upper and lower part of the bay window area were painted grey, and taller shrubs were planted in front of it. It's simply too big a patch of white when there is very little white elsewhere to balance it.

Paint the white downspout grey.

Honestly I don't think the house will look much different with the stucco painted to match the garage door, and I wouldn't spend the money on it. Better landscaping will give you much more impact for the money spent. However, maybe it is more jarring in real life than in the photo on my screen.

And I'd paint over the bright red lines on the baseball net.

Here is a mock-up to see if you like the stucco painted and the shutters off. I'm not sur what the grid pattern of you new door will be so I guessed. I know you are getting black, but I tried white just to see. I like it with the white bay.

Thank you for that mock-up, housson. It helps me see what it would be like without shutters. Pretty naked. But the matching paint does make it more cohesive.

Thanks for the suggestions, partim. Landscaping is sorely lacking. We’ll address that in the spring. And the hoop is an ugly distraction. I like the idea of painting above and below the window.

I agree with Partim. The lack of colorful landscaping leads one to over-analyze each element. The only thing I might do would be to repaint the garage door to lose the greenish undertone. But first I’d put my money in landscaping in the front, cute pots on steps, and something to the left corner of the garage.

I‘d take what you have and post to the landscape forum. Some pretty plants in a bed next to the pavers, sealcoat the driveway and it will look great.

I think it looks better with the shutters in this case, even though you have double windows. Just make sure they're sized correctly. Each shutter should be half the window's width.

With white shutters. I prefer the black.

As far as the hoop, a roll of black duct tape would make short work of the problem red.

My two cents… the new garage color looks more complex as a color than the stucco color and in my mind complex equates to more thoughtful, more considered. Like you took into account not just the stone but also all the greenery surrounding your house when choosing it. It’s different, but not so different that it yells hey look at me. It’s Celiné, not Gucci. I also like the shutters, but if I’m spending money on the exterior I’d spend some of it on new shutters that at least look like they would cover the window and have hinges and the other little working shutter accoutrements. It’s an added expense but little details like that take something from ‘looks nice’ to ‘looks fantastic’. But before I did anything, I’d change your door to the one you want and put in the new walkway…put the tree up before you start hanging ornaments.

Wow. Just wow. I'm floored. Ourfarmhouse -- thank you so so much. Talk about aspirational! Really lovely. We are getting our steps replaced and a new interlock pathway to the sidewalk this fall. And everyone has chimed in about the lack of shrubs, flowers etc. I'm on it! In the meantime, I'll load up the front porch with some fall mums.

The nice thing about returning to black for the garage door (I would make it a low lustre -- unlike the shiny one that it came as) is it would save us a lot of money -- if we stay with Rockport Grey on the garage, we need to do Rockport on stuccco all the way around the house.

There seems to be a real divide on those who like the Rockport Grey and those who prefer the black. No one answer, I guess. :-)

The good news is you have some great options. I would do black garage door because that would eliminate the need to paint the stucco and the color doesn’t work for me at all. But I prefer contrasting palettes.

You have to decide which is best for you, time and expense wise - but if it were my house, I would keep the garage door Rockport Gray, paint the trim around it black to match your new door, keep the shutters black, and use paint as suggested to minimize the huge white blob of the front windows. Or even think about painting that black also.

You can go to the Sherwin Williams (or any major paint maker's) website, upload your house photo to the visualizer tool, and play around with different paint combinations until you are confident in your choices.

I don’t think garage doors should ever be a ”focal point”! Just the opposite actually. I would paint the stucco the same as your garage door.

I agree with ourfarmhouse . I think the bay widow is overpowering and needs to be balanced. Not sure if that can be done with paint alone. Definitely the entry door with Georgian side lights and portico in second mock up (of ourfarmhouse) which together with the bay window looks perfectly balanced with a traditional look. In the meantime, the garage door looks better in black and the shutters should stay on in black.

If a portico is too much of a stretch for the budget, a black awning will give you some projection and presence over the door at a much lower cost.
