Paint newly installed vinyl clad windows, exterior!!
Comments (7)I would prime with a 100 percent acrylic bonding primer. Have the primer tinted to a medium gray. I would also sand the vinyl first. Cottage Red is a stock BM color, so that means it will cover very well if you use BM paint instead of having it matched in some other brand. Factory tints are much stronger than machine tinting done at the paint store. If you try to paint Cottage Red over white vinyl that you had custom matched at SW, I bet you are looking at 4 coats minimum....See MoreBeige/tan/almond vinyl windows???
Comments (6)Check window web sites. Many have a gallery of projects that will show what you are looking for. From my experience, I like the tan/almond/beige better than white on the exterior but it can be problematic on the interior from a decorating standpoint. Some manufacturers may offer a white interior so that is what I would look for. Good luck....See MoreCan I have (new) vinyl windows exterior painted?
Comments (2)I think you will end up with big problems. After the vinyl ages and roughens, you could probably paint them, but not when new, plus you're defeating the entire purpose of these being "maintenance free" and never requiring painting as wood windows do. It's too bad you didn't specify these in the contract. I assume this builder buys thousands of windows from the manufacturer at a good price, and if they are special ordered in black, he will pay more....See MoreWindow dilemma and exterior paint color
Comments (6)Not necessarily. I was just thinking match three windows with three windows for symmetry -- and get wider windows but fewer of them. Not sure about the cost difference with that. Since your contractor already has the size, you might also ask for a quote on three windows and the installing the second vertical framing. If you add four windows -- two double hung -- you'd have narrower windows -- and still have vertical framing between the two pairs of windows. Do some math and see how narrow those windows would be before you decide. Make sure your contractor knows you want to fill the entire window space between the bricks with windows and framing. Understand where that framing would be -- how much will be wood and how much glass and actual window and the cost difference between any options you're considering. While It might even be possible to use only two windows in the space and fill the width with mostly windows and little vertical framing, however, really large windows may have the potential to begin to have a commercial building vibe. Just to be sure your windows would not be that large, do go by a building supply store and explain to the clerk what you're considering and see if he/she will set two windows that size side by side for you to look at....See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
