Covid-19 Booster Shots -- Strength?

I've just sent an email to Moderna asking if the projected 'boosters' will be the same strength as the first two shots -- 0.5 ml. and 100 *something I can't decipher that looks like jg*. I got a third shot last week, which I know was the same as the first two, but today I heard an MD on the radio state that 'boosters' will be half that dose. I can find nothing about this in any literature from Moderna or the CDC or WHO. (So of course I turn to the Kitchen Table!)

The way I understand the local news, senior citizens and anyone with a 'compromised' health situation will get a booster that is the same strength as the first two shots. Healthy people will get the half strength. I don't know if that is national or local, or how it may vary from state to state.

I agree with Elmer. My preference is to have as many people as possible around me jabbed, but since so many are refusing I want the booster to protect myself against the refuseniks.

I got my Pfizer booster shot today at CVS. I got the original shots at The Christ Hospital and wasn't sure if they would contact me and someone told me that CVS had the vaccine boosters available so I went online on Friday and got an appointment for 1:00 this afternoon. I had to have my card, my Medicare card and my ID although all the pharmacist only took my card to write down the information for today. Someone asked him about still doing other vaccinations and he said that in reality all he was seeing now is the booster shots being requested. When I signed up I was asked if I wanted a flu shot at the same time. I declined that. I'm do for my second Shingles shot and I can get that next month. It sure was easier this time around!! I'm grateful for that. So far no side effects, not even a sore arm.

At times when someone confuses anything ranging from baseless articles, opinion or politically motivated propaganda pieces with what's factual and authoritative, I'll share my observation and/or ask about it. Sometimes it's done innocently. Sometimes it's deliberate. There are media "sources" - radio, TV, websites- that purposely put out comments they know are untrue/unfounded but they do so to influence opinions. They know many people swallow their falsehoods whole without giving any of it further thought. And spread the falsehoods. That's when I speak up.

At this point, probably everyone is going to get omicron eventually, I’d say most of us even multiple times - asymptomatically or not, it’s just that contagious. Previous infection, vaccines and even booster probably won’t keep the virus out of your body. So we are getting to endemic which was the only real outcome for Covid as of delta. It will likely always be around, and seasonal. Now that most people are immune experienced (the easy way or the hard way) the severity has gone way down for those who have immunity, so we are edging closer to the common cold experience - although not there yet especially for the elderly. What we do know is that vaccine and boost has an enormous effect on disease severity. Most recent data from Texas below. Previous infection with delta confers about a 56% protection against (symptomatic) omicron and 88% protection against hospitalization according to a recent Qatar study. This is comparable to booster numbers (57% and 90%). If your infection or your last dose of vaccine was more than 6 months ago I’d go looking for a top up.

I bit off topic, but I have seen headlines saying that antivaxxers are refusing blood transfusions using blood from vaccinated people. If true, that's crazy.

In the “something … that looks like jg“ the j is actually the latin letter ”mu” standing for micro, and the g stands for grams. The dose is 100 micrograms. A microgram is a millionth of a gram.

The third shot and the booster are two different things. What we, the immunocompromised are getting is the third shot, which is the same strength as the first two. We get that because it is thought that we have not produced as many antibodies as healthy people. I don't know what the strength of the booster will be or whether we will need one as well.

Thanks, all. I *know* the original doses. I *know* that my third dose, as an immunocompromised/Old Lady candidate, was the same 0.5 ml as the first two. My question is about the projected 'boosters'. Will a booster shot be 0.25 ml?

Yesterday my DH was 'shot' with a third dose at our local CVS. He's a healthy 83. I wonder if pharmacists are just vaccinating anyone who walks in, regardless of age or health status, as long as they don't say they have health issues that would preclude getting the vaccine. "Qualifying" is pretty informal. We each had our second doses March 5, not six months ago, let alone the eight months being projected for 'everyone'.

BTW, my third full-dose reaction was minimal. Sore arm and feeling a bit 'off' for two days. DH says his arm isn't even sore.
