Furniture Arrangement - Narrow Living Room w/ Corner Fireplace. Help!

Hello Houzz,

We are currently trying to furnish our living room. We are a bit lost on what to do, and would love to hear some thoughts from folks with experience. We'd ideally like to fit a sectional in our living room space, but are unsure if we have the space to do so. The corner fireplace, the adjacent kitchen counter, and the narrow dimensions of the room are giving us a lot of trouble.

Here are some options we are considering:

Is this the best way to situate furniture around a corner fireplace? We've read online that having furniture at an angle in a narrow space is generally not a good idea, but are curious to hear thoughts on this!

Should we give up on the sectional? We have been shopping around and it seems like most sectionals are 105" wide or a bit more, which leaves little room for traffic to flow through from the foyer into the kitchen.

Is it weird for the TV not to be centered to the sofa? It seems like the only place for the TV is to the left of the fireplace. Centering it to a sofa seems impossible given how narrow the room is.

Any nudge in the right direction would be amazing as we are quite lost in terms of what to do.

Ok, so here’s some ideas you may not have though of. Flip flop the dining room with the living. Depending on how your breakfast bar is done, you child just mount the tv there. Build a divider wall on top of the current bar, but leaving it open. In one photo, the tv can spin so someone could watch the tv while in the kitchen. Do a divider wall again on top of the breakfast bar but only go halfway across allowing for the person in the kitchen to still be able to see out. You could have a small divider in between the two rooms perpendicular to the sliders or you could place a lift tv cabinet there. Lots of options-just depends on what will work as far as electrical/cable access.

A 55" TV is only about 48" wide. I really think the sofa should go on the wall and the TV should go above the fireplace. Otherwise, you have to choose between awkward TV viewing or an awkward sofa location. eta: I just read that you never use the fireplace. You could put the TV on a console in front of the fireplace (gasp) I know. But I think you could make it work if none of the fireplace was visible.

Can you "float" your coach in the room, facing the patio doors, maybe with a sofa table behind it? You could then put the TV on the wall across from the fireplace, maybe a chair in the corner next to the fireplace. That might not be optimal TV viewing from the couch, however. But the arrangement doesn't look great where the TV is now.

One idea might be to add a very short wall on the left as you enter the living room so the opening to the living room is the same width as the entry ... and, by doing that you could put wall to wall built ins on that end of the living area, with or without a tv, and still create two separate sitting areas. I don't understand the "bar" against the solid wall behind the pantry and refrigerator. If you changed the pantry to a "butler's pantry" with a pass thru window, that would have made more sense. Is your "bar" a cabinet something built in? Have you considered either closing or narrowing the door between dining and living room and/or creating your pass thru bar there with your piano in the adjoining corner adjacent to the fireplace near the dining room wall? https://www.decorpad.com/search/butler-pantry-pass-through

I prefer the first set up and just make sure tv wall is well balanced and interesting. Add add a large coffee, then only one side table will be needed and place a floor lamp at end near fireplace. Two single chairs facing fireplace for better conversation and so seating is not all lined up. If space allowed and they are open to buying a sectional, see below. Is tv too large to go over fireplace and open to that idea? They could add bookcases or cabinets to create a great focal wall. On wall facing sectional, add a console table and art. Inspiration pictures are random decor wise but thought visuals might help in regards to concepts.

Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. We definitely have not thought of potentially switching the living and dining room, and this gives us a few new ideas to play with.
