Sounds to me like it was all cut and dried, and all these "try-outs' were just to pass time,

and get viewers. By the "talk" I'm reading, I don't think he was anywhere near the favorite.

But did any of the others really want the job? Many of them were serious journalists. A two week stint as game show host is fine, but permanent?

Maybe some day soon the Packers will trade Aaron Rodgers to Jeopardy! :-p

I assumed some were auditioning and trying it on for size, and some were just for fun. The ones I thought that were seriously auditioning were Ken, Buzzy, Aaron, and Mike Richards. Didn't really seem like the rest were. But that's merely my take on it.

for me, nobody can ever take alex's place. i have watched only a handful of times and that was to see anderson cooper.

Uptown Gal - I know that trick! It's apparently been used often by our dept. administration. They're required to post a job opening and do interviews, but they already know who's going to get the position.

LeVar Burton was pretty good, I understand...

I also think that to replace Alex so soon would have been too difficult fir everyone.

I think most did it as an honor and to part of something so iconic.

Mayim Bialik , Ken Jennings, LaVar and Buzzy seem interested.

I google the various hosts to see how they present. Mike Richards sounded the most like Alex to me. He is also nice looking.

They announced this on CBS This Morning, and Vlad Duthiers said that Mike Richards was his favorite choice for a new host all along. Since Jeopardy is on CBS, they promote it on their news programs. CBS This Morning had LeVar Burton on a few weeks ago, and he said he really, really wanted to be the permanent host for Jeopardy. He seemed sincere, and most of the CTM cast also said that they wanted him to get the job.

If I were Mike Richards, though, I’d be looking over my shoulder at David Faber. He sure is ticking a lot of boxes! He has a good voice, he sounds intelligent, seems at ease, I really think he could settle in and make it his own.

I like David Faber as well. I never heard of the guy but he is good. Really good. I did not like LaVar Burton and that was a big surprise to me. I was really looking forward to him. I like most of them well enough but Mike Richards, David Faber and to a slightly less degree Aaron Rogers stood out. thing is there are lots of things about the job we dont even know about. It isnt just about presenting clues.

I imagine that steering the game, the timing, being able to stretch or move things along, is a skill to learn. Richards has experience with that. But I'm so surprised to like Faber, since I didn't know him. Burton, he was just okay, and tbh he's a bit, well, old. (about my age) They will want someone who can take it for the long haul.

Edit to say, I'm surprised to see that Faber is only 7 years younger than Burton. Oh well. But he reads younger, so to speak.

I liked him close to the best of all! i would be fine with that. Of course there is no replacing Alex, but Alex isnt coming back, sadly.

I would like Mayim for sure.

I don’t wish to take anything away from Alex, but for me the vast majority of the subs have ended up very good, and off-hand there are only two or three that I feel would be bad choices. As such it seems to me not too difficult of a role to fill. I never saw Robin so no opinion on her. Richards was a natural for obvious reasons, and I’d be very happy with him.

I rarely watch the show, but I would watch it more often if it had Mayim for the host.

I am barred from being a contestant on this show because my brother works for Sony Pictures Entertainment. He was on the employees Jeopardy show, but I don't think it was released to the general public.

I thought Mayim did an outstanding job and would be a very interesting host.

Robin wasn't prepared at all. Surprising because George S and Anderson knew to follow the answer and drop some knowledge and comfortable chatting and nicely saying no, sorry sorry and smiling. i will bet there is no leak on negotiations. if there were, someone would be fired and the possible host would be gone. Anderson has a a new son, doesn't need the money and the schedule for this show very easy. Money Money? How much would they make. Some need the money . Mayim probably does.

Alex was an icon due to his longevity but I never understood his popularity. He was awkward most of them time. 'Chatting' never seemed comfortable for him. The show will change in it's feel if history prevails. Lets Make a Deal/Price is Right et. al. all have a different flavor since their iconic hosts retired. Time moves on and I for one think Jeopardy is WAAAY over due!!

Pleased with their choice. He has been the best host so far. It's wise for them to keep the show focused on the questions and not allow the host or his viewpoint to alienate viewers from the show.

Still think it’ll be Mike?

I just finished reading today's Yahoo news article, and lots of fans are petitioning against Mike Richards in favour of LeVar Burton

Burton was among my least favorite. I like the current guy whose name escapes me.

Current host is David Faber. I guess he reports on finance. He's good.

Jeopardy! never said these were tryouts, just guest hosts. But it has been fun to taste them as possible contenders.

I'd never expect someone to be like Alex. After all, he was not the same a Art Fleming. Mind you, he didn't exactly replace Fleming. So r situation is different.

Interesting that the current champion has played under 3 different hosts now, and will likely play under a 4th! It will be interesting later to see what he has to say about that. Many champions say they prepared by learning Alex's rhythm, but Matt would have to figure it out in 10 minutes, to chime in properly the rest of the game.

Mike Richards has a formidable, varied job. I’m betting he makes a lot more money than will be offered for a host. I often wondered how Pat Sayjak could go on and on watching contestants spin that wheel. Surely he would want more in his life. It's as bad as working at a toll both..Nothing to challenge him and think.

Pat Sajak reportedly makes $15 million, to tape shows four days a month six hours a day. More than plenty of hours left for a fulfilling life. Hardly a toll collector!

foodonastump. Wow! The network must think he’s the reason the show survives. I mourned Alex death. He had a schedule like Pat Sajack but the show is challenging and he had a knowledge of the subjects because he was curious and read and travelled a lot. We now know this is true.

If Pat S is paid $ 15 M I think the toll collector should too. I have no doubt it is hard to come to work and do that job. He’s an essential employee though.

I don’t remember which hosts, but I remember one saying that hosting a game show takes a certain personality. It is harder than it looks and not everyone can do it.

And how about Vanna White? She has made a really nice life fir herself and she isnore that happy to turn those letters. She is an icon in her own right.
