Lovely room❣️I also like your choices of items displayed above the fireplace! I love items displayed in a home that are meaningful to the owner. When people visit, it often stimulates conversation about your displayed items, and people get to know another side of you. I am a retired US Air Force Captain and was stationed in England for a few years, and your dark chairs, dark table, and white walls remInd me of a European look. I am also considering getting some charcoal brocade upholstered chairs for my dining room table. I really like your chairs!

I like the arrangement and love the narwhal. i have a deer jaw and feather on my television cabinet. a friend with a ton of birds’ nests gave me one but I didn’t care for it so that is gone. why do i like the deer jaw?

Can we play with it? Beware, I am a less is more person…. How does it look if you remove everything but the narwhal print. Then center the print on the mantle (not over the firebox).

I think you need something "soft" -- like a plant. This is a dining room; you're supposed to have a picture of a ship in a dining room -- it's an old superstition. I'm not crazy about that bar. It doesn't seem to mesh with the fireplace.

I like it and agree the Narwal on the right looks good with the firebox on the left. I always prefer decor that has some personal significance over "store bought".

I like what you have, but I think you need something larger on the left, and maybe some color.

I would do a tall white orchid in a cachepot, with the orchid sort of arching over to the right. Then I'd repeat the cachepot color by adding some books in the same color. Maybe pull a color from your rug, if you have a blue or green (not red as the brick is "red").

Love your aesthetic. The only piece that I think might be altered is the skull on the left. I think the mirror behind it (?) detracts from its form. Do you have a larger skull ? (I have never typed those words before!!!!). One that could be hung as a one-off piece where you have the skull and mirror. Bigger. Love the Narwal and the asymmetry!

Can we try removing the mirror and the coral? leave everything else the same.

I especially like the books/bird situation.

Love the Narwhal print!!! It is home on that fireplace. Your room looks fabulous. Also agree the left side needs something larger. I'd replace the small mirror with a tall-ish vertical unframed piece of art. A thrifted oil painting? Something with colour. Agree with Mrs. Pete, the bar doesn't seem to relate that well. Too shiny? Not sure but this is my impression from a picture on my screen. You're in the space so you have the more accurate look and feel of it. :) You have a lovely home.

Here are some re-arrangements based on suggestions. There is not one with just the narwhal because that was what was up there the whole time we were do the renovations and it looks too bare with just the narwhal. Also, the bar cannot be changed as it is built-in.

I think Mtn was right. i like the white orchid. Maybe play around with some different containers for it though to further brighten that corner, perhaps a lighter blue or aqua. And I like the coral. But the starfish is cool too.

I like the second one that you posted but…is there any way you can hang the skull at mid point between the brick mantle and the first row of trim bricks, between the stacked books and the left wall? Just the one item. So the focus can be on it?

perhaps you might try something like: orchid on the left and then either coral + starfish close to the narwhal or 2 animal skulls close to the narwhal. my notion is to have just 3 items (but one of the 3 is made up of 2 linked things). id keep the “2-of“ items close to each other and whichever one within the set is taller can overlap the left side of the frame.

i understand that the books are creating height but i wonder if you can make a happy arrangement without books.

I like the white orchid, but I think the container needs to have more presence ---- color, texture, size, pattern, ID?. I also would like the orchid to arch to the right, creating a closed parentheses of sorts with the curve of the antlers in the bottom right.

I like the skull (?) upright without the mirror, and might try switching it out with the bird.

For some reason, the coral situated on the lower left corner of the narwhal picture frame jars me. I much prefer all of the pictures with nothing in that spot.

I agree BBSTX, I don't care for something sitting at each corner of the narwahl. If anything I'd move the coral right next to the antlers. IMHO, you either want a total symmetrical arrangement (not a fit for these natural, found items) or totally asymmetrical.

Here is another try.

The over head light is pointing the wrong way on the left. DH needs get the ladder out to readjust. The orchid was the only one I had to try out but I can certainly get another one that leans more to the right next time I go to Trader Joes.

I am biased but I think it looks great!

As far as the orchid pot, I think you can pretty much use any container you like there, maybe even a b/w or black and gold chinoiserie.

Love the use of the books to elevate the skull on the left. Very nice. And I like the orchid, too. I think you are done! ❤️

One more thought. If you look at the entire fpl area, you currently have lovely white birch logs on the right, and the (mostly white) narwhal print above it. You may want to distribute the blocks of white more, but switching the order of your mantle decor. I'd try it and see what you think.

What I would do is give my husband another same size, same frame narwhal for his birthday or Christmas, and only have the 2 prints on the mantle. I‘m still less is more…
