AMTRAK station in Newark, NJ I had forgotten about New Jersey day. A friend picked me up at this station and took me to her house during my trip to Philadelphia.

Lars - i detest driving on the NJ Turnpike and when my son was in Law School I often took the train from Princeton to Newark Penn Station. I was surprised the first time I got off the train to discover that it's one of those beautifully, classic old-time stations. It was designed by McKim, Mead & White to complement Penn Station in Manhattan.

maire_cate, The Philadelphia 30th Street Station is very nice too and a lot larger than the Newark station. I didn't have my camera with me for my train trip, and so I only took a few photos with my phone, and it doesn't take the best photos - the others I took came out blurry.

You are so right Lars. 30 Street Station is a classic train station - it looks like a movie set. Unfortunately they removed that wonderful old Solari fip-board click sign that listed train arrivals and departures with a digital sign. There was something wonderfully nostalgic about watching the sign and hearing the rapid click clicks as the boards flipped.
