Today was the first day I have done any hybridizing or taken pictures for about a week. It was hot but the humidity has dropped some. The mosquitoes next to the pine trees were vicious though.

Big Bird's Friend is one of our super tall ones.

I am surprised by how tall Impassioned is.

I think I picked up One More Bud at our club's auction for 5 bucks. It was well spent--a great daylily.

I love Trance.

Two and a Half Cats was putting on a show today.

I don't usually go in for colors like Sweet Lady Elizabeth.

As you might imagine, Sunny Intervals was Bob's pick.

I thought Electric Snake would be registered as a spider, but it's not. Still the petals on this one are some of the narrowest in the garden.

It's not often you see a five way poly. This is Evermore Greatful.

Last Man Standing is a great grower for us. It's scapes are taller than its registered 26 inches tall.

Please forgive the hand. Another scape was pinching the big bloom on Orange Skies.

Raggedy Man is one of our favorite lates. It just started blooming.

We dabble with hybridizing striped daylilies. This is Ruby Grandeur X Explosion in the Paint Factory. I would prefer to cross two striped ones, but since I have only one tet striped one, I am force to cross it with solid color, hoping to see some stripes. The bottom flower shows some broken color. We will have to watch this one to see what it does.

Trance is a nice background plant in the garden and so far has sturdy stems. I'm not so excited by One More Bud; to me the color is muddy and it didn't make it past pot stage. Impassioned is very colorful here too; yes, tall scapes.

I just noticed I had the picture for Forestlake Pleats for Laura in the post twice. I have fixed it now. Kay, I don't remember what the tall orange one is, but I believe Bob has selected it for further evaluation. The bed where Bob is pictured is slated for elimination this fall. We will remove the blue-tagged plants to another bed (if we can find a space) and till this bed under. The new seedlings in 2021 will go there. I am expecting this year to be a low seed year with periods of drought and high heat. That's ok though. Sometimes it gives us a breather. We have enough in the select beds for several years worth of intros.

Julia, Sea of Cinders has not proven to be reliably hardy here. We have lost over winter two plants that were planted in the ground. Luckily for us, Sea of Cinders produced several prolifs the first year it bloomed. Now we now have the potted one and one planted outside in a protected location (on the south side of the garage). Both are doing fine, but we fear a bad winter will kill the one outside. I think it's Bob's absolute favorite daylily but I don't think it is available anywhere. Extreme Tangerine, one of our intros for 2021 is out of it (crossed with Horns, which is hardy here). Extreme Tangerine is more orange than red orange but it seems to be totally hardy. Houzz won't let me post a picture of Extreme Tangerine.

Kate, our highest number was 3400, but that is just too many. We have just under 1200 this year. We have to be careful because we are running out of space. As the years go on, we also need more space for the selected seedlings. I think we have about 600 of them. We really need to downsize the named varieties, and we are working on it slowly. Bob and I have always planted all of our seeds, but we may have to do what some do which is select what we feel are the best crosses and plant only those.

Very pretty ones, Nancy. This is Raggedy Man X Sonoran Desert Rose., Pineapple Bites X Veto, and Stella's Ruffled Fingers X either Indelible Blood all appeal to me, but not a stinker in the bunch. Ultimate Design is awfully pretty. By the way, Nancy, the two fans of Muy Caliente has increased from the original two fans to six fans. It will stay in its pot until I see roots at the bottom of the pot. The other two are doing very well also. kay

I agree, it is nice to see Trance-I don’t think it has been posted this season. Sunny Intervals certainly is a bright flower. Orange Skies looks to be a very large flower.
