so i called lowes and mentioned the scratch and they offered me 15% off or a new machine. i took the 15% off...i don't know if they could have even ordered another one for me but i def wasn't going through another delivery process just bec of a scratch on the machine. i'm very happy with the 15% off. then i called the 3rd party delivery co's guy i had been dealing with all along...(way back i asked abt compensation for the hassle from lowes they said its the delivery company's responsibility so at the time i asked this guy i was dealing with and he said he def would be giving me something.) so i called and asked for compensation he said he'll get back to me...that he has to speak to lowes etc so i mentioned that i got the 15% from lowes for the scratch bec i never mentioned the scratch to him so i didnt' want him to be confused. and told him that when i asked lowes abt compensation for the hassle they said the delivery co is responsible. anyway he called back and offered $75 in lowes gift cards. I tried saying its so little, i'm getting that much back for a scratch and this was a huge hassle and totally avoidable had the delivery guys not dumped the machine and ran...if they would've just read the instructions they could have done it properly, and then on top of it they lost the feet etc that it was not a mistake, it was laziness and negligence etc...but he still said all he can do was $75 so i said fine... lol so assuming the above comes through it will cost me $356! still would not want the hassle of the feet, not worth the aggravation but the scratch is prob worth it ;) on a side note, when i called the delivery guy i've been dealing with extensivley, i introduced myself saying "hi, i'm the lady with the rubber feet" haha

My house had an existing sunroom, fully insulated and a full basement beneath. It is 8x13. The roof abutted our master bedroom. We added a bath room above it. Our existing roof was in good shape and our siding and roofing tiles were still available. No plumbing preexisted on this side of the house so trenches had to be dug in our front yard through walk way and driveway. Both of those cost close to $10 k to replace. Our costs without counting the architect, 5k, driveway and without having to reroof whole house and reside whole house( if we could not have matched roofing it would have added 7k) was $67,000. We provided and made our vanity out of an antique dresser thereby saving thousands and we painted walls, ceiling and wood work ourselves, estimated painting cost were $1900. We did no bath tub and very little frills. Here are pictures of before and after. We lost a lot of curb appeal bathroom is pretty basic but has great natural light.

If your plan was to have more bedrooms and baths in basement, I don’t see why that cannot be done on a second floor.. That is very common use for second floors, but of course I have also never seen a basement here (which are very common where I live) designed for “smelly things” as they usually include a family room or den, bedrooms, and a bath as well and are part of the overall living space. If you don’t need 3700 sq feet (that would be too much for me, too) then you definitely don’t need to build over entire second floor. An asymmetrical design can work aesthetically and functionally but you need to work with your architect to get it to look and feel purposeful and not like an “add on”. I do agree you are likely going to need to “start over” though - it does not mean you need to lose all the elements you like about current plan, just need to start over to properly integrate them.

The house is actually about 2000 sq ft as is, and a fully remodeled interior. The goal is more so to add some height because the neighbor hoses on both sides tower over it. Also to add a wanted open loft area. I think this is a case where you're making a mistake. You don't need to match the other houses in the neighborhood and in fact being the one different house with 2000 square feet could be a huge selling advantage when the time come if someone wants a one floor house within the neighborhood.
