Comments (99)Rjinga, I hope you see this, since it's not moving to the top. I was out of town for the holiday, but I found your posts in my email. Thanks so much for your lovely compliments! The painted top held up well. We sold the house a few months ago, and all the potential buyers thought it was granite! Even many Realtors (who have likely seen plenty of the real thing). I never did redo the poly to smooth out the brush strokes, and never even had to touch it up. My husband and I aren't hard on things, but I did have water, perfume, hairspray, curling irons, etc. on and around the counter with no problems. It wiped clean with a spritz of 409 and a soft cloth. If I ever do it again, I will try the oil poly with a pantyhose applicator, but I definitely recommend this easy technique if you want a faux granite top....See More1904 craftsman before/after update
Comments (18)Photos looking back towards the built in seating area and cabinets around the dining table (sun is going down, so a bit dark). I found the old wood backed seat cushions buried deep in my basement (huzzah!) and reupholstered them in a celadon green color. The built ins used to be painted an awful 80’s hunter green (see older pictures). I opted to paint them walnut so they would blend in with the walls—-as much as I wanted to go light I was concerned it would cut the room up and look out of place. I did paint the back wall of the inside of the cabinets celadon green for a subtle touch of color that matches the cushions as well as other accents I have around the room. Now I need to pick a new chandelier.......See MoreUPDATED - Before and After - Kitchen and living space
Comments (11)That is a beautiful space that you will have fun working on. We always start our projects with our trusted GC. He has a team he works with including a structural engineer that can quickly asses what we can and can't do. Then we decide if we want to hire an architect or not. How much do we want to spend. If you are doing this yourself, I suggest getting an engineer in there to see what is going on. If it is a load bearing wall it can still be changed you just need a plan and some money to make it work....See MoreJakabedy personal before and after and general update thread
Comments (64)Glad you took advantage of the time to focus on yourself. Sounds like the divorce and dropping of toxic people freed up a lot of energy in your life for some exciting pursuits!! I have been there with the job stress. When a toxic person leaves the workplace or your life, or when you get a less toxic job, it can seem like you have dropped 100 lbs. without even dieting!! You look great. Hope you have even more fun the rest of the year!...See More3katz4me
