Sherwin Williams Infinity Paint

I am painting bathrooms and bought two gallons at Lowe’s. It’s eggshell finish. It does require two coats, which I planned on anyway.

The working time on this product is about 5 seconds before it gets too sticky. I will never buy it again.

We used to buy Cashmere for living rooms, whichwe loved, but for the bathrooms, I wanted to get something quick at a big box store.

Can you add Floetrol to Infinity?

Also, would BM Aura have better flow?

I have no idea you provide no info. Is the weather really hot where you are ? I have never used that particular pint so my suggestion is go to where you bought it and see what they say. You do not do a second coat until the first one has dried so not sure what you mean by sticky.

Most paints the last 6-8 years start tacking-up in 2 minutes. Paint companies can't use the same additives they did 10 years ago. This affected how long most paints are "workable".

The "Paint Industry" was an "Easy Target" for regulators to go after, when the drive to reduce VOC-Levels gained traction.

So ........ it's not any single Paint company's fault. It's just a sign of the times. Even as powerplants, factories, trucking, etc ...... keep belching out 10 TIMES the pollution that Paintmakers EVER did......

Sherwin Williams is a decent paint. I have used both it and Benjamin Moore. Personally, I will never buy Benjamin Moore again, but many love it and use it all the time. You also need to be aware that bases are different for paint brands, so you may not get the same exact color in another brand, so its better to go with the Sherwin Williams. Reviews are not always accurate. A paint job depends upon the prep that goes into the project. Also what kind of paint is on the wall right now. Is it the type that needs a primer? Flat paint is less washable than matte. Matte paint is less washable than eggshell. Eggshell is less washable than satin, and etc. The sheen you pick is dependent on whether you have little ones that often put hands on walls, and will need to clean it often. It is also dependent on the condition of your walls. Anything with a sheen will show wall imperfections more. Flat or matte, will not show the imperfections so much. Also, I would want some type of washability in bathrooms and kitchens and in my case, my hallway, which always seems to have finger prints for some reason.

I have no idea how this translates to SW paints, but we are working with BM colors and looked at similar shades, and learned that some of their yellow and red pigments fade quickly in UV light, so colors that include those aren't great to use outside because they change. I imagine there is a similar rule of thumb for Sherwin-Williams. We learned which pigments to ask about and the paint store would run the formulas and tell us which included those and which didn't. Some of the aqua/teal colors did and others didn't. Might be worth looking into to see if the same applies to SW colors. I love the color otherwise!

Alkyd (oil based) paints are decent paints, there are working kitchens all over America with 50 year old alkyd coatings on cabinets. For most people alkyd paints will hold up fine in a kitchen. Modern industrial coatings are much better than alkyd paints, even urethane modified waterborne alkyds. However, that doesn’t mean that every consumer will benefit from it. A significant number of four wheel drive vehicle owners never actually put their vehicle in four wheel drive because their vehicle is never put in a situation to need it. Similarly, a paint that will handle more situations is only beneficial if your cabinets see those situations. So rather than say Emerald is not a good cabinet coating, I would say there are far better cabinet coatings widely available. Having said that, get a nice 2k poly and dump a pot of coffee on it and then start crying. The biggest problem I have with someone using Emerald is it seems too tempting to take shortcuts. Emerald has a four hour dry time which is much better than Advance but is still way off the few minutes for industrial coatings. Which is the big advantage of those coatings, for a manufacturer you get a 30 minute flat pack time versus a day or two. There is not really a quality advantage to shop sprayed versus site sprayed, other than how difficult it is to find a good site sprayer. My paint booth cost more than my new truck and I am getting ready to spray the topcoat in my home, because it is going to look better.

The closest you will most likely come, will be to take a small piece of the siding to the paint store and have it color matched. There would be close matches, but, no identical matches.

I just stated ABOUT 2 Minutes. It varies a little by Brand & Product-line.

An AVERAGE "Open time" is 2-3 minutes nowadays. In fact.....BM is soon phasing-in a slightly modified version of a couple of their paint-lines. That's all I can hint at for now. Open-times will be a LITTLE better.

CABINET & TRIM Versions have a much better "Open time"!!

This implies that you LAY DOWN the pieces that you can. Taking off Doors, etc. Simple Physics dictate this! Slightly thinner coats must be applied to vertical work to avoid sagging. BM's ADVANCE C&T stresses OVERNIGHT between coats.
