Hey all,
Wanted to get some design ideas on what sort of sofa (color) and accent colors would go well with my living room (pictures attached)? Our kitchen has a more modern feel and we have dark gray cabinets & gold hardware; plus, we have and open concept living room and kitchen, so wanted some advice on what kind of color(s) for our sofa would be appropriate? We were thinking of getting the attached gray leather sectional from value city and decorate it with perhaps turquoise blue accents, but not sure if the leather goes together with the theme of our kitchen. I was also concerned the sofa being gray would be too much gray in the house lol. Any advice would be much appreciated :)

No more gray in a large quantity. And, no that sectional does not belong in your house, color wise, size wise and style wise.

Lovely room. Is there a fireplace? Will t v be in this room?

FYI, the reviews of Value City are not good.

As for color, I would use the kitchen hardware color as inspiration.

I like this rug because it works with your floor, your walls, and the saffron color I would choose for the living room sofa.

Looks like you have idea books with alot of kitchens, wondering if it would be helpful to start one for your living room. Love your kitchen, to me its moving into a bit of an updated bit modern direction and you should have a similar feel in the living room. Have you taken measurements of the room to help to better understand what can fit. A scale drawing could help. The sectional you show looks quite big and may be oversized for the room, its also doesn't have that updated look that your kitchen has... just a few ideas to start thinking about inspirations.

You have a lot on your plate. It's not necessary to decide everything all at once unless you are paying a decorator and contractor to swoop in and do everything. Since the living room ideas are not flowing, I would hold off on making a plan. You'll learn things and get inspiration while you are working on the other rooms. I'm not sure of the style of your house but careful about adding trendy or expensive permanent changes that might clash. Your bedroom wood wall looks a modern farmhouse element and your kitchen cabinet style and finish look a bit Tuscan. If you are dying to make new purchases for the living room, I would start with a great rug and build from there. You have a great space and it looks very livable. There is no need to jump in and make a bunch of changes right away.

Good suggestion from Grover to start collecting ideas of what you like. Based on the measurements given, I think the tried and true sofa with two chairs will work well. If you arrange as in the diagram below, you'll want to choose a sofa with dimensions of roughly 7'L X 3'D. Chairs can be about 3'X3'. A small variance should be fine. A really good thing to do is to tape out the measurements of the furniture you're considering on the floor to make sure they'll fit comfortably.

Pictures below may give you a few ideas - I searched “small living room with dark grey sectional” on Pinterest and highly suggest you research rooms that appeal to you and only then start looking. Rooms below are more earthy for example. - I would head towards a simple, light rug to make space feel larger. Be sure to get the right size and search on line for info, if needed - Instead incorporate the brass with a curtain rod, table, lamp and mix and matched cushions - Select non bulky furniture - I would wait for art until you have the room completed If you added pieces like below, you’ll have a very different room, so it’s important to decide on the direction early on I would definitely remove the tv from wall as it’s overwhelming and too high. A low console it will look so much better. Three ideas below, depending on how you want the room to feel.

Flip the white sofa and upholstered chairs... sort of: The conversation arc: place furniture so that people can easily hear one another. 8 feet (244 cm) is ideal; larger rooms may need to be broken into seating groups. Circulation paths need 30 - 36" (77-91 cm) of clear width. You can place coffee or cocktail tables as close as 12" (30 cm) from the edge of the seating. Other furnishings might need at least 24" (61 cm) between pieces for people to easily move about.
