Same paint color for house exterior trim and body?
Comments (2)I just drove through New Hampshire and saw dozens of homes with trim and body painted the same color, with only the door a different color. They tended to be historic homes, Federal to Greek Revival period. Most did not have shutters and few were painted white. One of the nicest was a deep beige with maroon door. Another was deep red with a black door. Not boring at all; absolutely stunning. Great examples of "less is more."...See MoreTrim color & Should I paint fireplace?
Comments (6)Hi Cate! (Thank you for your lovely e-mail -- made my day!) I totally agree with annie and teacats -- painting the brass a dark color will make sense with the rest of your gorgeous new space. I don't know what to recommend but do know there is heat-proof paint (as teacats writes) -- found this, and it comes in charcoal! (paintable and spray) Now about your trim ... on the one hand, I'd love to see your ceiling color (in a different finish) on your trim, marrying it together. On the other, I'd also like to see your front and kitchen doors have matching trim, and if you do that, then the other trims should match. I guess I don't know the colors well enough to make a helpful suggestion. From what I can see of your fireplace I am not in love with the brick, BUT I'd wait to do anything until after you've painted the brass and lived with it for months and months. The painted brass and then your artwork might totally temper the brick. It is coming together so beautifully. I am really excited for you! -Brooke...See MoreWhat color should I paint the exterior trim and door?
Comments (10)The first thought that came to mind when you said "more contemporary" was black or deep green. Here are some inspirational photos. You didn't ask, but I would also remove the old schrubs and put in new landscaping. It would really move the home's look to the next level. Paint or replaced the front porch handrails your trim color and if you could replace them, select straight line ironwork. Add a new stainless mailbox and house numbers and change out your lighting. All these details will help you achieve the look you are aiming for. However, you can't totally change an "English bungalow" to a modern building without more structural changes, which I wouldn't do at this stage....See MoreHelp- should I get a new front door or just paint the old one
Comments (5)Thank you- the door functions fine, the paint and hardware are just worn out. I've replaced the hardware twice in the past 12 years (2nd time was warranty replacement after the finish failed, and the finish has failed again), so I would definitely like to put a little money into something that will last longer....See MoreBeth H. :
