Changing hardware on a frameless fixed glass panel

Hello - I am purchasing a new build. I want matte black fixtures in all bathrooms, but don't want to pay the upgrade cost as I am sure I can buy the material and have someone install them for less. The master bathroom has a frameless fixed glass panel (pictured below) that has ceiling mounts and another type of mounts/claps (not sure what they are called). I have searched for the ceiling mounts and have not been able to find them, so I am wondering if it is fairly simple to have someone switch them out from silver to matte black.

Contact a shower door company. I see 4 wall and floor mounts, plus the upper arms. Likely 2-3 person job to lift and remove the glass, depending on the thickness.

Can't imagine you would save much $$ by not paying for the upgrade...plus it will be quite a hassle!!

Thanks folks- We got the fixed panel installed today, and it looks great. Man it was stressful though!!! I think I drove poor DH crazy with having to stop every few minutes to carefully think through the next step, and arrange wood/towels/bubblewrap on every hard surface in sight! But its in, plumb and square and looks great. UNFORTUNATELY........ the fabricator seems to have sent the wrong hinges for the door. They seem to be the self-closing 90-degree type, and we needed the adjustable ones for the angled door. Of course they are closed until Tuesday, argh!! (This after they also forgot the setting blocks -which I luckily was able to find at a glass store that was open on Saturdays- so I am not sure I will recommend them. We'll see how they handle the hinge thing. Maybe we are just not seeing how they'd adjust, but I dont think so...) Anyway, I should have been showering in my new shower tonight, but looks like I will have to wait another week! On the plus side- we did not upgrade to Starfire glass (it wasn't offered and I did not think to ask) and after reading about it on GW here, I was worried about the green glass color, but it turns out it looks really, really great with the other palette in the room :) Tomorrow: vanity install! lennym: let me see how this company handles the hinge issue and then I'll post about them. They were the cheapest online vendor I found; maybe in this case you get what you pay for? They've been responsive and helpful thus far, though, and I know they are in the process of moving their showroom this weekend, so it may be a one-time honest mistake...

Ours was 3K, included all parts, glass, labor. The shower is a modified square shape a square with a slice off of one of the corners. Of course, that's where the door is. He really struggled with getting it all to line up. Mostly because the standard door wasn't the same size as the opening for it and there is an additional trim piece of glass beside the door. Looks great in the end, fainted at the price. Good to see that others are familiar with these kind of numbers. He did everything, measure, fabricate, deliver, install. They were very tall pieces of 3/8" tempered glass. It was no picnic for him!

Thank you both. The 2 glass fabricators I have talked with since I posted both said that 1/2" would be overkill, but they will take my money if I really want it. Since the side panels go all the way to the ceiling, they say I do not need anything thicker than 3/8" for structural reasons. I will ask about the mini clips. The regular clips are about 1-3/4" square. Right now, the plan is to use a channel at the bottom for support, which will be hidden by the 1/2" thick tile (plus mortar) butted up on each side of the glass at the curb. There will be clips holding each of the 92" H x 14" wide side panels to the wall (2 clips) and ceiling (1 or 2 clips). I am thinking about using a towel bar/handle on the door instead of a standard handle. It adds extra metal, but I need someplace to hang the bath mat to dry. (I hate to obscure the pretty tile work with a towel hanging on the door, but don't have another good place to put it.)

Why is it a bad idea? What are the potential consequences? Also, do you have a recommendation for a "proper product"? I clean the shower, including along the silicone, every weekend. I don't think that's an unreasonable frequency. I should also note that I misspoke when I said mold/mildew, it's actually that pink bacteria gunk that's growing along the edges of the silicone. Every week I clean what's on the surface of the silicone, but it's getting between the silicone and glass and the silicone and tile as well.

Going to need the brand / model as well because not all brands and models will take the same hole pattern / template. Plus the glass being tempered cannot be modified and any different hardware.

You could thoroughly scrub and carefully paint the fixtures you have a flat black using a paint intended to be exposed to moisture.

Thanks everyone. Sammie J., I probably won’t save anything. But the upgrade is $4k, and I’m not crazy about the sink and shower faucets. So I was thinking to get the color included (shiny silver) and they switch everything out to natter black.

Have you priced what the cost would be if you installed the glass after the bathroom was finished. When I did my remodel the glass was installed by the person who also did my mirrors. Shower glass is installed all the time after a bathroom is completed.

I do recommend Showerguard which is glass that is impregnated at the factory and is not a coating. It has been three years - I don't squeegee after showers and the glass has no deposits or streaks with normal cleaning when the bathroom is done once a week.

Sink faucets are easy to swap out but fixtures in the shower including grab bars are more difficult to change once the bathroom is complete.

Try C R Laurence. They make just about everthing for glass. Very large website so you’ll have to hunt but they should have what you are looking for.

Edmond Kitchen & Bath LLC, CRL absolutely has all the shower parts. However unless the templates started out as CRL the CRL Hinges, Clips, etc will not fit as the screw pattern will be different, meaning holes in the glass in different locations.

The photo is of the model home. Mine is under construction, but we don't have the option to not have the glass installed.

Good question BTW OP black anything in a bathroom IMO is a bad choice , water spots will make you crazy but so will that nuber of grout lines you show,
