Adding front porch - odd roof lines
Comments (2)Here is a before picture of the house, you can see where we enclosed the breezeway btw house & garage (although garage is not in this shot). I'm a visual person and need to see sketches before I can make any decisions :) My husband has brought up the deck idea as well and we are far enough from the road that I think zoning would allow (but would obviously check first). Our two issues with that are the chimney and the exhaust for our boiler (I think that's what it is) comes out right behind the chimney. Any thoughts & ideas are greatly appreciated, this stuff makes my head spin!...See Morewhat color shutters should I do or should I do shutters at all?
Comments (6)thanks for the suggestions on photoshop. I did add the shutters in paint but we're still not decided if we need shutters for all or center or no windows. Enclosing pictures with shutters on all of them and shutters on center block. Also, we're thinking of matching the door color with the color of the shutter. Any opnions? As for adding picture to the post, I uploaded the picture to tinypic.com and pasted the html link....See Morepossibly adding an enclosed front porch
Comments (6)I don't think adding a porch will reduce traffic noise enough to make it worth allocating any budget towards that project. Also keep in mind that you will likely get more used to traffic sound over time after being in the house. I think investing any budget in other solutions to more directly reduce the sound (e.g. insulated windows) or even inexpensive solutions to mask the sound (indoor wall fountain, music, etc.) or in landscaping to make the home the most charming in the area would be a better route....See MoreAdding Front Porch - Balancing Home & Building Advice
Comments (9)Remove the shutters which don't fit the double window. Hang a pergola over the garage door at the same height as the top of the window frame on the opposite side for balance. Beef up the trim around the garage door to match that on the windows. Repaint your dormer white, or you might match it to the roof color. Hang new shutters on those dormer windows, but not louvered style. Black ones if you paint it white, and white ones if you match the roof color. Remove the block border of the bed on the left and curve the bed around in front of the porch and along the drive. Move the evergreen shrubs around to the left side of the house. Proven Winners has some dwarf flowering shrubs you should consider for under the double window, and right of the porch. Increase your porch lantern size to 1/3 of the door's height. It and the mail box should be black. You might paint door and its trim and the garage door black too, but wait until the other things are complete to decide....See Moreulisdone
