ideas for artwork over headboard
Comments (38)Just a quick update....the "Fly Home" canvas arrived yesterday - we love it! Had already decided it would not go in the bedroom. (Thanks, again, Perky, for photo help!) It's too big and colorful, etc. So, the Ballard Grand Bouquet plaque will be hung over our bed instead (as soon as it arrives - I love packages!) Instead, we moved a piece of existing artwork and put it in the master bath (where I intended the Ballard plaque to go), hung "Fly Home" in its place, and all is perfect. It looks like I actually knew what I was doing - ha. I was a little worried about the pinks in it, but they're very subtle, and they bring out the pink in some paintings I bought on vacation in Hilton Head (the first purchases I made for this house.) So it all worked out and life is good ......yea!...See MoreUpholstered Headboard--Anyone make one?
Comments (25)I found the most expensive item needed to make a headboard was the foam. I made mine similar to NHB only we drilled holes in the plywood for buttons. Once is was upholstered, we decided not to use buttons but they can always be added. If you decided on buttons, I know there is a fabric store at the Berlin Mart in NJ that covers them reasonably. I also found their price the best for foam which they can custom cut. I know it's out of the way for you. Try 4th Street in Phila for materials. This is our Guest BR. We used a very tweedy fabric. Please ignore how the bed is made in this picture....See MoreHelp -- attach headboard to metal frame?
Comments (17)Why, thanks, Mtn. I used Bbstx idea of zip ties to replace the second bolt. It works very well. Thanks, Bbstx. My son the contractor finally explained the order of all the hardware to me by using the shish kabob analogy. Imagine the long bolt is the skewer. First slide on the medium size metal washer so it is against the bolt head. Next slide on the leg of headboard, then slide on the large rubber washer (to prevent metal on metal), then slide on the metal bed frame, then the locking (small) washer and finally the nut. Ta da. It worked. Along with the zip ties and lots of cursing. I am going to need to use the felt pads under the feet of the headboard because right now it is levitating. Thank you all. It takes a village -- or a forum or whatever....See MoreFinally ordered a headboard!
Comments (40)oofasis -- Calico Corners has wonderful sales throughout the year, and I think they do first-rate work, at least the four CCs (although I think they're now calling themselves Calico Home) in two states I've used have done incredible work. Earlier this year (as in September, maybe?) I ordered a king headboard, bedskirt and dummy panels from them and because of the sale I think all of it was like $1400. ??? I should double-check the receipt, but that's the number which is sticking in my head. (It was a sale on both fabric and labor!) I know the headboard alone was ~$700 (again, the sale price) which astonished me (because I'd been expecting to spend at least twice that). Anyway, get on their mailing list. (snail-mail) They'll send you postcards announcing their sales. Oh, you can pretty easily make your own upholstered headboard -- I did it, but I have to say that the CC headboard does cartwheels around mine (and mine was quite good, if I can immodestly write). Oh, there's a gal here who recently made her own tufted headboard -- texas something. Look for her and headboard in the search feature -- she gave a good play-by-play of how she made it....See Morelobo_93
