Okay, another duvet question
Comments (6)Hi dixiechixie, I also just removed our duvet cover which we purchased from RH about 2 years ago. Because it needed a good ironing after being washed, I ended up having it done at the dry cleaners. We have a K bed & it was huge to try & iron at home. Anyway, the issue has been that with the duvet cover on over our silk (really nice quality) comforter, the whole thing became too small (maybe bunched up a little?) & didn't fully cover the mattress down to the bedskirt. I could use the silk comforter alone as it has a nice sheen, but instead put a sort of quilted silk type coverlet (lightweight) over the comforter to protect it & dress it up a bit. Just something else to consider...I have finally decided I'm not much of duvet fan...I'm beginning to think a chenille type bedspread to the floor is the way to go!!! Maybe I'm just getting old! Good luck with your decision....See MoreQuestion about duvet covers
Comments (21)I've used duvets and duvet covers for 45 years and have never needed ties. Or clips. I suppose they might be useful, but? I'm European. We use duvet covers as top sheets and wash with all sheets and pillow cases. Frequently. I have to ask, are your US duvets and covers the right size? How do you make the bed? Honestly, all I do is insert the duvet into the cover match the corners and shake. It does help to have the cover inside-out for the insertion. To make the bed, I air the bed by folding the duvet back and/or toss most of it out the window to fluff (weather permitting.) Then I match the bottom corners again (only an inch or two drift) and shake again vigorously. It just seems to fall into place onto the bed. Twin duvets are easiest, but I can do this on my own with a king. Fluff pillows (we don't do decorative pillows or top sheets in my house). Place duvet back on bed and smooth. So easy. I don't want to sound argumentative or mean, but I just do not "get" decorative pillows. I'm function over form.:-)...See MoreDuvet question. . . .and it probably doesn't even matter!!
Comments (21)Thanks everyone!! Annie1971 and dlh2000, it was curiosity and a "light bulb" moment (gee, I never thought about that before) vice something to worry about and I knew some GWers would weigh in. Mostly I'm sort of the Alfred E. Newman type - "what, me worry?" about things like this. . .and toilet paper, although I will admit to being an "over the top" on that pressing question. When I was in college (and of course, you always know everything at that age!) I remember questioning my Mom why she did things a certain way and encouraging her to try something "new and improved". Her comment to me was always "this is the way I do it, but when you have a home of your own, you can do it THAT way "!! Wise lady!! Kind of a Frank Sinatra philosophy. Lizzie nh and vickij. . .so glad to see that I wasn't the only "top of the bed" girl!! I think I always did it that way because the pillows, shams, and deco pillows would cover the opening when the bed was made. Maire Cate, I did get the shams. Actually, they kind of bug me too as the opening is on the left side rather than centered or set back from the side of the pillow. . .which means one of the pillow openings shows from the side of the bed. Again. . .most certainly NOT an issue that will cause me sleepless nights, but. . . .As far as my sheets are concerned, I do top sheet patterned side down so when you turn the top sheet back over the blanket, the pattern shows. So, since I really, really wanter this set, the duvet will open at the bottom, the opening of one of the euros will show from the side of the bed, but THE BEES WILL BE FLYING UP!! Thanks Ladies!! Most interesting!!...See MoreDuvet Question
Comments (6)I personally think comforters and duvet covers never seem wide enough even when you buy for the right size mattress. I have a queen sized mattress and currently have a duvet cover and I image if it was positioned at the foot of a king, there would be no drape on either side of the mattress. Do you want it to drape some or would you be ok with it just long enough to go across the width of the mattress?...See More
