Question about duvet covers
Comments (21)I've used duvets and duvet covers for 45 years and have never needed ties. Or clips. I suppose they might be useful, but? I'm European. We use duvet covers as top sheets and wash with all sheets and pillow cases. Frequently. I have to ask, are your US duvets and covers the right size? How do you make the bed? Honestly, all I do is insert the duvet into the cover match the corners and shake. It does help to have the cover inside-out for the insertion. To make the bed, I air the bed by folding the duvet back and/or toss most of it out the window to fluff (weather permitting.) Then I match the bottom corners again (only an inch or two drift) and shake again vigorously. It just seems to fall into place onto the bed. Twin duvets are easiest, but I can do this on my own with a king. Fluff pillows (we don't do decorative pillows or top sheets in my house). Place duvet back on bed and smooth. So easy. I don't want to sound argumentative or mean, but I just do not "get" decorative pillows. I'm function over form.:-)...See Moreanother duvet question
Comments (16)I'm the opposite - am not crazy about down comforters, really comforters in general. I do like a top sheet, although many don't. I prefer that and a light blanket - supplemented or changed to a quilt/heavier blanket in colder temps. I have used a duvet without an insert folded at the end of the bed. Just for looks. I like the fact that you can use a fluffier insert or a thinner one - depending on the look you want. I rarely wash my bedcovering - prefer to have it cleaned - and I don't have pets that get on the covering. I know people who have made duvet covers from flat sheets but most I've seen to purchase are heavier than an actual sheet. But as someone responded, they come in all weights. I really like duvet covers. tina...See MoreDuvet question...
Comments (9)I will definitely check measurements next time...believe me. My husband doesn't see the big deal, which is why he has most of the empty portion on his side...wait till it's colder, it'll be a big deal then! I did look at the websites though just now, my comforter is 86"x86", which seems pretty standard for full/queen sizing. The full/queen duvet from Pottery Barn Kids is 90"x88". I will see if I can sew it...I do have a machine, how hard is it to sew a straight line right? There is a down-alternative comforter on Overstock right now that measures 88"x88"...I can live with the 2" of emptiness. I'll have to see which is easier, ordering or sewing! Thanks for all of the suggestions...I will definitely wash it first to see if it shrinks too....See MoreA question about down duvets and coats
Comments (11)I have found flannel sheets and my usual covers are warmer and nestle around me better then a down duvet. Watching a local Search & Rescue team several years back, I learned that humans lose 80% of their lost body heat through their scalp. The volunteers were strongly advised to wear warm caps. This is in line with the old practice of wearing "Night Caps" to bed before there were self-regulating heaters. I felt silly the first winter it tried it, but I stay warmer and the heater can be set lower. Just like the "Old days" I bought a satin night cap, and it actually helps my hair not to be so tangled. Good luck. l.marie...See Moresis2two
