Hi! Well, we're still not finished with this DIY bathroom...so all I can really tell you is that I do still like the floor ;-) We have a solatube in the ceiling, though, so it's a relatively bright room (it's a window-less closet otherwise). I don't have a picture to show the layout, but basically when you walk in the door the vanity/sink is right there, across from the entry, and the door can only open a bit over 90 degrees or it hits the wall. To the right of the sink is the toilet, and to the right of that is the shower/tub combo. It's cost-prohibitive for us to move anything around layout-wise. We couldn't add any storage beyond the vanity, except with shelves above the toilet or hooks/bars on the wall. Honestly, for me the best solution to storage problems in our small house is to streamline and de-clutter. All. The. Time.

Woa, Tippi, you have a serious and expensive moisture problem. It has to be leaks or infiltration of moist air. Is it very humid where you live? Do you have dry indoor air in the winter? My experience with mini splits indicates that potential and existing customers are very confused by the manufacturers' language ca. dehumidification. Yes, there is a dehumidify setting, but there is only one coil in the indoor unit. They can only be biased to water removal over cooling by running the fan at the lowest speed and keeping the coil at the lowest practical temperature. This is a very nice feature and is very effective in humidity control when only a little cooling is needed or a little can be tolerated. It is not as effective as a dedicated dehumidifier when one of those is desirable. The commercial units might have two coils in the indoor unit. I have not seen that, but I am not an HVAC pro. They'd also need two sets of lines, one for each coil. What I know they can do is cool and heat adjacent units in the same room, or in adjacent rooms at the same time with the same outdoor unit. This would be an effective dehumidification device in lieu of a dedicated dehumidifier. BTW, this link was posted in a current thread. update: I mentioned the noise issue to him not with any blame to assign, but just with my concern that it is LOT worse than it was before, and did he have any ideas what was going on. There was the leak that I mentioned, so he came out tonight, and the problem is much lessened, even if not fully solved. Though he had routed out the pipes as well as he could before, he had not snaked them (I had asked him to do this, but it fell through the cracks. I guess he didn't have his snake with him before. I had mentioned my concern for the slow flow in the very beginning) The noised seemed to be gurgling/water turbulence at the point that it no longer flowed well, about 12" deeper in than he had been able to open up before. It is still a bit noisy but no longer like a waterfall in your face. I'm not upset that he did not notice it before, as it is really in the other room, not in the bathroom, that it hits you, so he would not have noticed. Even he was surprised, and genuinely wanted to resolve the problem. For now it is about 80% better, just with a little snaking. If I seemed offended, it is only that I would NEVER not pay a person for services rendered, and for that to be suggested sort of got my hackles up. The problem was that I just didn't *know* if my complaint was valid or not, and so I didn't know if it should be fixed before the job was "done" and paid for. Some of you in the plumbing/contracting professions may also be offended at hearing generalizations about contractors, but I have had people treat me badly. There *are* people out there who assume that the little blonde doesn't know any better, and try to push me around. Unfortunately, when it comes to plumbing, they are right. I did not expect this of my contractor, but just wanted to be knowledgeable before approaching him. (And I'd still recommend him to my grandma) :)

If the work is done and you haven't paid for it, I'd just ignore the request for extra money. Let's face it - the new circuit cost $20 in copper and an hour or two of the electrician's time. This is not worth it for either party to get a lawyer, place a lien or go to court over. Now - with the same reasons - pay the $30 and get a GFCI breaker and put it in. You can't expect the electrician to do that when you aren't paying him for the extra circuit. I do think in my area, that the heated tile require a dedicated circuit by code. So their plan was a code violation - I think you could remind them both in a professionally written letter - explaining why you won't pay their bill. I doubt they'd risk a court battle where their plan involved a code violation. I might throw in nice polite threats about complaints to licensing boards and Angie's list. Also, in my area, they could get shut down doing an unpermitted job.
