Design Dilemma Kitchens

Kitchen Island Pendant

Hello! Looking for some advice. I bought a matte black island pendant for my small apartment kitchen island. The countertops are a white marble with grey veining (kinda dramatic, arabescato corchia). I already picked the cabinets which will be white oak (rift with a little brown staining). I like the original black lighting because it matches the faucet I bought, but now it 1, looks too small for the island and 2, actually looks a little cheap. I bought a walnut colored light which i think is objectively very cute (and doesn’t look as cheap IRL as black one) but now sure how it will look with my cabinets. i think it clashes a bit. Any thoughts/ooinions are welcome!

Idk whether the new sleek LED lights have a different look, and set of measurements as to minimum lengths? What are their lengths? and length of island.

Very pretty! But, it may cast a 'spider web' light show on your white ceiling. As for height, the best advice I got on here a few years ago was when I was torn about what size, length pendants to go over my peninsula. The advice was: blow up balloons to the diameter you are considering for your pendants. Cut some string or yarn and hang them at the height you have for the chain, from your ceiling with painters tape. See how it looks.

Yeah, just line up your lighting as if there wasn't an additional overhang for seating. you don't need task light focused above seating anyway.

I'd go with smaller to med 2 lights 10" or if you are doing a lantern as they have little visual obstruction and you can get a way with a bit larger light. A single at only 11" will be terribly dwarfed on an island just shy of 7 feet. You can do the balloon on a string test and push pin them to the ceiling over the island: two balloons blown up to 10" so you can better visualize if you think you need to go smaller or larger a little you can then try it again. You want about 30" between your fixtures... a pinch less is no big deal.

I'm not an expert, just enjoy home decor and design. Your kitchen is beautiful. I have a similar cabinet color scheme, stainless appliances, bronze hardware. I choose bronze hardware and pendants because that's what I'm drawn too. I like the warmth of bronze. I read all the time about mixing metals. I'd suggest keeping the same style though. For example not a modern pendant in your traditional kitchen. Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks everyone! The lighter wood at the bottom of the third pic is the cabinet color. The kitchen is a weird shape. Attached is an old sketch. The island is 43.5in around so a square. We stood on a ladder to see how the lights filled up the space, and the dark wood color light looked better. The dark wood light is 39in (I know ideal ratio is probably off), and the black one is 28in which looked puny. I want to go with the dark wood one but worried it might clash with cabinet.

The cabinet style will be flat/modern style (so hopefully no dusting).
