Your Favorite Rose Color
Comments (26)There are very few rose colors I don't like, but as much as I like lavender roses, I must admit that when my eye catches sight of a yellow rose, my heart lifts up in joy! In my garden-- Berolina See how cheerful Berolina is in a garden full of color! She is right in my line of vision when I look out my kitchen window. Molineux--I enjoy some apricot hues in yellow roses also, but sometimes Molineux gives pure yellow blooms. Well-Being--often has a thin outline of red around edge of newly opened blooms--quite charming. Jeri Jennings--a pale yellow The Pilgrim climber is a most delicate pale yellow/white. Easter Basket usually opens with a blend of pale yellow/white, but takes on lots of pink hues as the blooms mature. I'm stretching it a bit with Lady of Shalott, but sometimes--as in this pic--she shows a lot of yellows mixed in with her more usual apricots. But I do like lavenders also--and reds--and light pinks, medium pinks, hot pinks, etc. And bi-colors and blends. . . . Kate...See MoreYour Seven Most Favorite Roses
Comments (38)Kate, you don't need to kick anything off your list; we'll call this gorgeous beauty your bonus rose. I can never see much difference between this one and SdlM - perhaps slightly darker / It's a lovely photo. Marianne, that second shot made me swoon. You have the soul of a true gardener. Melissa, you are a natural and gifted writer. You've convinced me to put Etoile de Lyon in my garden as soon as I can pretend that one of the roses I have is not nearly as good. Sometimes I wish the tea roses were smaller so I can fit more of them in, but their size is a large part of their beauty. Lisa, I've had the middle-sized Cecile (also knows as Bloomfield Abundance I believe) and it bloomed most of the time. The flowers were identical to the other two Ceciles. Mine looked like a short but fairly upright climber and I imagine could easily be grown as a large bush....See Moreyour favorite white rose
Comments (92)Another huge fan of Maria Shriver here! Form and fragrance to die for! Too bad she's not better known, and really too bad she's only available from (the new) Edmunds now. I bought my original one way back in the day from (the real) Edmunds, and it's still going strong. Since it's elderly, I got a new one from the current Edmunds (Jungs), was mislabeled, tried again the next year, and now I have a back-up. I also made a cutting of my original one, so now I have three. It's a great rose....See MoreFavorite clematis to twine through your climbing roses?
Comments (55)Oh, dear! Having that stuff caught on rose bushes would be a problem. Getting it off the thorns without ruining the blossoms would be tedious. She must have used the nylon netting that is light at a feather and would easily blow around if not attached to something. I've never had any trouble with the plastic type blowing around. We used the big construction staples and staple gun to attach it to the trees. Since the chickadee incident I keep a close watch, and have never seen another bird get caught, but I'm aware they could. They would be less likely to get tangled up in the heavier gauge. I think the nylon type would be a nightmare with their little feet entrapped in it....See Moresharon2079
