It is VERY difficult to help one pick a grout without being present with the tile and seeing grout samples. There are many different types of grout as well. EPOXY grout Made from epoxy resins and a filler powder, the grout is extremely hard, durable, and nearly stain proof. Often times the bond between tiles is stronger than the tile itself. Many installers don't prefer to use this as you need to work quickly with it....That is MY opinion. You really need to look in to getting some tile bars to put next to your stone. Even if you have, "The Tile Store" in your area... you can go in and they have many color options. The Epoxy grout when cured(I believe about 48 hrs.) is mostly impervious to staining, chipping and cracking yet it can slump. We used Delorean Gray on our floors which are gray tones from very dark to fairly light cement looking 12x24 tiles. It was quite a bit lighter than it looked on the sample, but worked perfectly with our tiles due to the different muted tones in our master bath. Could have been the water mixture or other... however, it was a lighter gray. I could post photos I just took, but it does look a lot lighter in the photos as I have two larger windows in the bathroom and at this time of day it looks light. Are you doing the tile job yourself or is a, "professional" which I will use the term loosely as some are true professional installers and some not. Sanded vs. non sanded vs. Epoxy.... that is first to figure then the color. Do you have, "The Tile Store" in your area? They have many grout bars you can try with the tile which looks darkest gray on my monitor. However, I suggest you find a true tile store to see their tile samples vs. going off of a label at Home Depot and it's color via the label.

I would use cement-colored gray. That will look very natural, recede into the background, and let the tile be the star.

Thank you all for your advice! I loooove the green and blue colours you have sent me!! What is the green colour of the cabinets? This is our main bath for the house which is a 1940s craftsman cape cod type home. We are currently renovating the house as we just moved in so developing a colour scheme but we tend to lean towards post-modern furniture, Scandinavian hygge (aka eclectic). Our walls are white and natural tones, black door nobs/hinges and arctic white hardwood floors.

The dark ceiling in the recessed area has to go - it just creates a black hole effect in an already dark area. A quick lick of primer and then white ceiling paint will make a difference there. The living room side of the peninsula appears to be a soft grey and seems to work with the rest of the area and the counters. Would you consider carrying that colour into the rest of the kitchen on the cabinets? Or, if you could find a slightly warmer version (more greige than grey), it might work really well with the floors and fight less with the brick. It sounds like you're currently stuck with the brick. When you do a remodel definitely plan to remove that as it is really bossing everything else in the room into playing along with it. I'd paint it or whitewash it and make it the same colour as whatever paint colour you choose for the cupboards. It won't disappear, but it might fade into the background a bit which would help. When you remodel I'd also find a different location for the frig. A frig door that opens into a doorway is such a pain - we had it for years at another house and I just detested it. I know the counters aren't really working with the brick but I would never counsel getting rid of them because they really do look gorgeous and you clearly do like them. If you can, it would likely be a great idea to find a local design consultant to come out and work with you for a few hours. Some definitely do hourly work, rather than a large job. They can help you pull a cohesive plan together on colours that would work best with the elements you have.
