Wiring wrong, but it works?

After a lot of investigation, I'm eliminating my Electronic Air Cleaner from my HVAC system and just inserting a 5" media filter. In the process, I notice that the wiring from my thermostat is not connected to the corresponding terminals on the HVAC block connection (see diagram below). Yet, the system seems to work ok. From the thermostat green goes to "Y" and yellow goes thru the EAC and on to the AC compressor. How is this possible that it works, and what changes, if any, should I make?

Also, I currently have just turned off the EAC from running with the new filter. Should/could I just remove it from the circuit and connect the 2 white wires going through it?

I don't completely follow your description and diagram. What is important are the labels (Y, G, etc.) and not the color of the wires.

Is GWRY in the upper left the thermostat?

Is YGWRC in the blue box the furnace connections?

Where are the W and R in the upper right originating from? Is R really connected to C?

Does the electronic filter currenlty work in both heating and cooling mode?

When you say turning off the EAC is it still powered?

Dont know if it worked last summer as this is the first summer in the house. It is a gas furnace and elec. air conditioner. What would be the first thing to check since it works if I set the t-stat on fan?

Thanks Scott. The simple fix is just to swap the heater wires with the pump wires on the relay so that the pump is directly connected and the heater is under relay control. But I can move them both off the relay. It's not that hard. The 4 wire control cable is there but I'm thinking the pump speed has been working in manual mode for the last year and a half and not being controlled by the easytouch. See photo below (I go a bit overboard with these photos but it helps me when others provide them in their posts so maybe it will help others in the future). The 240V lines from the breaker are the 2 lighter blue wires. The red wires got to the heater direct from the 240V line (pre-relay). The yellow wires go to the IntelliPro pump (post relay but not for long). The blue and brown wires go to the EMI filter for the Intelchlor transformer (post relay).

From the beginning, I have considered that this may be a serious post and that the described problem actually exists. But also considered that maybe it is not. One responding post suggests a loose neutral. And the system at that premises may have that problem. But the poster says that with the living room ceiling light OFF (switch OPEN), turning on the closet light makes the living room light glow dimly. Lets say there is a loose neutral and turning on the closet light supplies some voltage to the living room light via the neutral (white). But the other conductor (black) connected to the living room light is connected only to a switch which is OFF. So how does current, of any amount, flow through the lamp (bulb)? "the first electrician was an inspector and knows his plug in testor doesn't work without a ground wire, therefore he thinks the gfci doesn't work. silly inspector!" The plug in tester is not even a reliable way to check a GFCI. The 'TEST' button on the face IS the recognized way. The small testers do not have adequate precision in the 'leakage' current they simulate. They are a 'meatball' way of verifying that a regular receptacle is on the LOAD side of a GFCI. They put a load from hot to ground to unbalance the current. No ground, no current, but it has nothing to do with the GFCI working correctly. They put the unbalance around the sense coil between the hot and neutral.

Yes, GWRY terminals in the thermostat are correctly connected to the green-white-red-yellow wires. And at the HVAC, the white and red are correctly connected to the W & R terminals. But the green wire is connected to the Y terminal and the yellow wire isn't connected to the HVAC but is spliced to the white wire of a white/red twisted pair that go thru the EAC and on to the AC compressor outside. (The red of that twisted pair comes from the C terminal in the HVAC unit.) Nothing is connected to G in the HVAC unit.

Not sure about when the EAC worked. I have pulled the AC power plug but the power switch indicator still lights up when the switch is "on" so I have it toggled off now.
