Lighting Design Dilemma Bedroom

Low Sloped ceiling impossible for lighting

So I'm building a 7×10 ft room in nyc. The lowest part of the ceiling is 5ft5 the sloped ceiling raises to about barely 8ft. How can I go about lighting it without it looking ridiculous. Pendants will be in the way and too low. Flush ceilings lights are very sloped because none of the ceiling is level. The homeowner doesn't like recessed lights. Please advise.

I DO NOT like my recessed lighting on the sloped ceilings. I hate the dark shadow gap in the model of the Iolite that I have - it is very noticeable on my white ceilings. I don't know why they designed these lights this way. My advice- buy a fixture which has no gap when it is tilted- even if it is a gimball. I believe the newer models of Nora no longer have these gaps. Also- one feature I love with my receseed lighting is the dimmable option which allows you to go from a very low K to 2700K. When I turn down the lights- they are much warmer and create lots of ambiance. And I just keep them at highest setting when I want brighter light. I should have done this with every recessed light in my house except the bathrooms and the kitchen - with are fine with just normal 2700 dimmable. And- don't add too much recessed lighting. It's better to have fewer fixtures, fewer switches (NO MORE THAN 3 per plate if possible), and more traditional lighting using both table/floor lamps, sconces, and ceiling fixtures. But I prefer more traditional homes so.....

Gimbals will not move enough to meet the pitch of your ceiling unless the pitch is quite low. Your installation requires downlights that match the angle of your ceiling. Take a look at this spec sheet. Remodeling will require a different housing than new construction. https://s2.img-b.com/build.com/mediabase/specifications/elco/495187/elco-el616k-specification-sheet.pdf I recommend you select a housing that takes a regular medium base screw-in bulb. Then you can later decide what type of bulb you wish to use in it to get the quality of light you desire.

The floorplans were made by the architect in collaboration with the general contractor. The rooms don't have to be 8ft wide because of a clause that indicates homes with more than 10 bedrooms can have a 7 ft room

If recessed ceiling lights are a no-go perhaps one wall sconce near entry and then table lighting.

You can get a recessed can light that pulls out from the ceiling on an angle. i have some in my house that are pointed at artwork. That might work.

Thanks for info. If the house already has ten bedrooms with more tiny bedrooms being added, and the homeowner has an architect, then the architect should be specifying lighting fixtures. Maid's rooms (very small like this) often had simple one-bulb overhead lighting or one wall sconce. If the architect wants the style to blend in with the older rooms, they probably have a good idea what they want.

Why would you need ceiling lights? Lamps plugged in to switched outlets would be more reasonable to light this space.

They look amazing, but im not sure I'd have use for them as they are a bit too modern for my decor style.

Really, recessed is the only reasonable choice (LED retrofits are pretty good for low profile and ambient light), or live with lamps on a switched outlet. Alternatively, drywall above the bottom of the joists and hang stretches of track light along each beam.
