I have a house with an odd shaped living room. It’s fairly open concept, and leads directly into the kitchen as well as the dining room and foyer. I am getting new furniture and would love suggestions on what pieces to get, as well as where to put them! Our TV is currently mounted above the fireplace mantel. I’m not a huge fan of entirely matching furniture sets or Loveseats. The more cozy and conversational the better- but traffic flow is obviously critical! I’m considering 2 couches, or 2 couches the chair and a half, or all/some with 2 velvet accent chairs. I’ve included pics of the room from different angles, the grey couch/furniture I’m looking at, and a quick sketch floor plan! Thanks to anyone who has advice.

If this were my room (remembering that I have only seen pictures and it your room) I would try to have the chairs and sofa facing the windows as much as possible. It appears you have a beautiful view that I would love to take advantage of. The windows are actually a form of art. Neither the view nor the artistic windows would ever be appreciated with everyone facing a wall. Maybe the tv could be placed on the wall between the other side of the fireplace and the back window. I see the hearth stones extend out a little so you may need to wall mount the tv with a smaller cabinet under tv. Your room is big enough to angle you couch and chairs to see the tv, fireplace and the view. Or maybe the tv could go on the wall where the two chairs are and again arrange the furniture to take advantage of some of the view if not all. Good luck! I can't wait to see what you do. Love what appears to be a tree house feeling in this room and all of the light and nature.

I need the TV on the 18' wall. I want all my furniture to be placed based on that. Definitely don't want to cover my large windows with any big pieces of furniture either, and I don't want to constrict the entrances. Those are my only good to (must?) haves. How do I do this? I have a 7'10"x10'10" rug. That's all I've purchased so far. I have no other piece of furniture/lighting/curtains. (But I have my eye on this mid-century modern sofa that's 86"x35")

Marie13100, I mentioned in the beginning we are in the process of remodeling our kitchen and we needed to move the dining table into our living room temporarily and cover everything from the dust. Lynn G, you’re right. Having to look at the wall would be a bit depressing. The most recent floor plan I posted that had the sectional along the window and long wall would be perfect because we can view directly outside the patio door which is in the dining room.
