The current arrangement does not appear to be the ideal solution. It looks like the bed and nightstand were just shoved aside to clean under the bed. If you are going to keep the bed angled, getting a round nightstand would be better than a square one. Since this is a guest, room one of the wide dressers could be eliminated and the bed placed on the big wall where the dresser now sits. I do realize that guest room dressers are often used for out of season storage so maybe you prefer to have two dressers and need them. In that case I would put drapes on the windows and put the bed in front of the window. The drapes would form a nice backdrop when closed and since the headboard is low the light and view would not be hidden when they are opened. This can look very nice. In fact some people even put up drapes behind the bed to give the illusion of a window where none exists. With a new furniture arrangement, I would put the lamp from the tall dresser on the nightstand and eliminate the two floor lamps by the bed. A lamp on a night stand is easier for someone to use while in bed and the floor lamps look a bit cluttery next to the bed. Put one of the floor lamps next to the chair and use the other one in another room. You have a very pretty room and I love your mix of furniture styles without going all "Shabby Chic" overload. I love your bold choice of wall color too.

whenicit, Thanks, but I need LOTS of help! The other advantage to the 2nd layout in BR1 is that the headboard is rather high and if I put it along the wall, it won't block the windows which would probably be better. I'll see about adding seating when I get the beds assembled. We may have room and it would give me a project to scour antique shops. That is what I'm planning on doing for a nightstand in the second bedroom. A little shabby/chic, beachy. I was going to look through some "Real Simple" magazines for inspiration. I'm not sure exactly what I want yet, but I though a "weathered" table, perhaps in a fun color, would go nicely with the iron bed. ajsmama, Thank you for the suggestion on BR1. I agree that swaping the nightstand is much better. On BR2, I think I could move the dresser closer to the door. The only think I actually don't like about the dresser in that position in general is that I'm not fond of the look of it from the side, but no mater how far forward or backward it is, I'm going to have that problem... Ingrid, I am a retired children's librarian and I was drawn to the colorful pillows because they reminded me of the illustrations in the old picture books from the sixties. That was very perceptive of you to get a child's vibe from that. I totally agree-no more blue! I love the idea of botanical prints and have been looking online for something with yellow and pink or red. When we get the furniture arranged, I'll hang the art over the bed lower as you suggest. katinparadise, I like the idea to paint the blue frames black. And thanks for the folding advice for the throw. I'm actually wondering if a different throw would look better. Would a different color look better? Red, darkish yellow? I never realized that blues are so hard to match. mrykbee, I'm still eying that cute little rocker you showed me yesterday and I love the welcome basket idea. I had the same thought about taking the mirror off during the winter months when we need to use the thermostat. auntthelma, I agree that moving the thermostat would be the best solution. I just painted this room myself last month and got my husband to get rid of the old intercom grill. I don't know why we didn't think about moving the thermostat at the same time. The good thing is, we're both pretty handy and I have leftover paint, so hopefully we can get ourselves in gear and just move it. I do not understand why they put it where it is. The heater is on the opposite wall! But I do love the baseboard heaters with each room having its own control. Thank you all so much for your suggestions. My 91-year-old dad often visits us for weeks on end and I think he'll get a kick out of the new, fancy surroundings.
