for me, it's simple pleasures. How about you?
As you can see from the picture, I have a really old cappuccino maker. I've been using a cup instead of the carafe because it was purchased at a yard sale more than eight years ago. I thought, "How silly! You use this machine all the time, why not buy a replacement?" and so I did. I didn't know you were supposed to tamp down the grounds for the longest time, but found out a couple of years ago. I've been using a measuring spoon. I thought "How silly! A proper tamper can't be all that expensive, get one" and so I did. I've only had one cup that holds enough milk, but I can still get it properly steamed. You're right, I thought, "How silly! Why not get more cups?" and so I bought a set. The gang's all here as of last week. Ah. I'm a happy camper.

Comments (10)Thankful that I didn't need to go anywhere or do anything, could be lazy here at home. Haven't driven the car since Sunday evening - when I stopped to get some milk on the way home... they were out, so I've been using it sparingly. Trouble is - there's some in the freezer, but it's rather large and when I went looking for it, wasn't able to find it, with minimal looking, today. Just found some, when I went down for ice cream - but it won't thaw for hours and I'll get fresh tomorrow, i.e. later today. Checked stocks - down a few thousand ... in the past month, that is - not just a day or two. Have some (real) bills that need paying, lost one for med tests for a while - tomorrow. Old Farts' coffee hour tomorrow, and must take Driver's Handbook back, plus do some printing at the library. Need to write some letters that I hadn't got around to before Christmas. Plus darn some socks. Enough to eat - including had one of those ripening tomatoes that I picked green at frost in the fall. Warm home. No aches or pains. Mind in reasonably good condition. Pleased that my licence will still be valid for a while longer, giving me time to take the necessary tests. Comments (24)I'm grateful for the variety of ideas and opinions that people come up with here on the KT. Plus their general concern for one another. Sometimes when we hear the bases upon which an idea that we somewhat disagree with is based, we find that we have more in common than we thought in the beginning. It's easy to ask for, or promote, or pray for such a thing as, "Peace", for example. But "Peace" doesn't happen in a vacuum. It doesn't appear like a peach in midair. Peaches require a tree with roots, a trunk, branches and leaves in order to happen. If we don't have a root of justice, available to all, plus a trunk and branches of a yearning and search for understanding and the leaves of compassion ... ... we can cry, shout, pray or yearn for the peach of "Peace" all we like ... ... but we ain't a gonna get it! Good wishes as you do all of the necessary things through these closing days of the year. Comments (18)Moses, I cannot thank you enough for your excellent advice! Thank you for knowledge about Quietness, and proper pruning. I have a feeling I will be ordering another one of her next year, if she is productive as she seems! I am just struggling with trying to figure out where all of these will go! The spot I do have in mind for Quietness will actually be in my front bed, by our large decorative lamp post, which I think will be quite pretty. I am placing my order for Lady Ashe along with Heirloom from Northland Rosarium today, and have a lovely spot of 6ft-high fence reserved for her. That is an excellent idea regarding the French drain. We are lucky to have excellent neighbors as well, so I will see if they have any ideas, as they have mentioned drainage previously. I began the discussion of additional French drains to DH, and he agreed to "look into it." I suppose that if it proves to be too expensive, I could perhaps convert that bed into my cutting garden instead, since it will be filled with a lot of annuals or wetness-tolerant perennials. Since the annuals don't form deep roots, a shorter raised bed might still work, and I could just flip-flop bed placement. So many decisions! Comments (13)Oddly enough, the power went out in my area last night as well. Was a nasty wet and kind of blustery day and evening so likely some tree close by lost a branch or fell and took out the lines. Not uncommon in my heavily wooded area :-) But also enjoy the benfits of a dedicated generator, which switched itself on in a matter of a few seconds. Power stayed off most of the night - woke me up when it came back on in the very early morning as all the appliances beep with the switch from generator to regular power.
