Oxygen Bleach/Sodium Percarbonate Reaction to Enzymes
Comments (10)Enzymes are not stable in laundry liquid products that contain bleach (oxgyen or chlorine), powdered laundry products are fine as chemical & detergent makers have found ways to keep one from affecting the other the shelf. Long as the product is kept in a cool and dry storage location things should be fine. Liquid laundry products by and large do contain enzymes but not bleach for this reason. The only exception are the various "pod" type products where ways have been found to seal off the bleach from enzymes to keep each from affecting the other. As for oxygen bleach and water temperature in general yes the hotter the water equals better results. However that mainly pertains to sodium perborate and liquid hydrogen peroxide. Sodium percarbonate OTOH is known as the "cold water" oxygen bleach because it can and will start working in cooler water. Personally have used either sodium percarbonate containing detergents or added it as a powder (Ecover) to laundry washed at temps of either 85F or 100F and the results are same; stains are soils are removed with textiles whitened and brightened. Ecover makes two versions of oxygen bleach by the way. One comes in plastic jugs and is liquid oxygen bleach (hydrogen peroxide) the other is a power (sodium percarbonate). Compared to "OxiClean" type products the latter is a better buy because it contains pure oxygen bleach. The others are usually 10% or more of washing soda....See MoreVaska HerbaSoft Softener and Oxygen Bleach
Comments (9)Wow ... I think I get my shipment from Drugstore.com to Canada faster than that. You have to keep in mind that no "green" FS will be the same as conventional (and for good reason). I personally can't stand Downy anymore with that "coated" feel. I think my laundry is perfectly soft enough and I never have static issues (and I'm using 10 year old machines not even uber fancy "Miele"). Static comes from synthetic fabrics and over drying. I use both the Vaska FS and the Shaklee Fresh Laundry FS - both are similar in consistency (as I assume both are soy based). Vaska has a soft lavender smell which does enhance overall smell of laundry slightly. Shaklee has a very fresh smell - my family just loves it. Both soften very nicely for me. I really believe it's all in what you get used to. Since I stopped using Tide ... oh ... 3 years ago - I cannot stand the smell of overly fragranced laundry. It never bothered me before but once I stopped, I can't go back - it's just awful to me. Even walking the detergent aisle is olfactive assault (and I worked in the prestige fragrance industry for 10+ years). I did post before about my opinion of the Vaska oxygen bleach. It has a very strong odor as does the spot remover. I find the oxygen bleach smell lingered in the finished laundry. I much prefer my pure sodium percarbonate or the Shaklee Nature Bright (Shaklee contains sodium percarbonate but also enzymes) neither of which have any smell. I too still love the Herbatergent. I use it quite a bit here in combination with some others. Thanks for posting a follow up - always nice to read others opinions....See MoreHow dare OXI clean laundry detergent have no oxygen bleach
Comments (20)LoL Sparky..yes some of us get to involved lol. I wouldn't have to do overnight soaks, but with a 6&7 yo grandsons ( I'm raising) there's always juice, koolaid, pizza, and numerous other crud on their clothes that I have to do long soaks. Than my 34 yo son likes to drop clothes off once in a while that lord are so dingy they need to go in a rag bag. Little story..my son dropped off a bunch of stained and brownish grey white tank tees ( wife beaters) that he works in, anyway I soaked for a week in hot water, biz, and tide/ bleach changing the water ect 2 times a day, when I was done they were gleaming white...a few days ago I seen him and ask why he was working in one of his good tees he said ** mom I don't know which ones are work shirts anymore they all look the same** I think this is one reason I am obsessed with laundry, its a challenge, and at my age I don't have many challanges...lol...See MoreTide powders and oxygen bleach
