I am 99% sure you have puffballs. If left alone, they might grow to the size of basketballs, or larger. Or they might only grow to that size. There are many species. All are edible (and prized) when young, although I never tell my kids that any mushrooms are edible, even if I know they are. When they grow older, I can teach them what to eat and what to avoid. When the insides of puffballs turn brown, they are mildly toxic (I think, a strong laxitive). There is a 1% chance they are the very young stage of a regular mushroom, in which case I have no idea what species or toxicity. Here is a link that might be useful: Giant Puffball Mushroom

pesticides kill pests.. aka bugs.. so thank god there is a ban.. or you would just be wasting poison .... mushrooms are fungi .... IF you were to spray... you would use a fungicide.. but frankly.. that is just poisoning mother earth ... shrooms are a byproduct of the decomposition of the wood/roots left in the ground upon removal of the trees... ITS PART OF MOTHER NATURES PROCESS.. and i gotta tell you.. they are pretty amazing.. IF YOU TAKE THE TIME TO ENJOY THEM.. instead of being type A about your garden ... Thanks for the answers, The tree is leaning away from the house, we often get 70mph winds here, I'm on a bluff, its not the leaning ones that fall, its the straight ones, no kidding I have never seen a leaning one fall during a storm, even when I loved in South Alabama and one was on a 40 degree angle leaning toward the the house, with roots hanging free in a gully away from the house and the wind blowing it toward the house and the tree at least 4ft in diameter. Although along the road and in the woods hundreds fell all straight ones. I think the leaning ones have better roots toward the lean.
