Aluminum GH channel nut / bolt size - Charley's
Comments (14)hi birdwidow.. Other than Charley's Solar-Gro I don't know who makes my GH so as much as I think it's a good idea, I wouldn;t know who to contact. They are stainless steel hex head bolts, but the head is smaller than a standard stainless hex. Here's the link to the actual bolt: http://www.charleysgreenhouse.com/index.cfm?page=_productdetails&productid=1466&s=bolt&cid1=-99&cid2=-99&cid3=-99 I've check Home Depot, Lowes and even our small hardware stores...they have nothing that matches. Here is a link that might be useful: Bolt...See MoreLooking for square head greenhouse bolts
Comments (8)Bob-thanks for the UK site, Good prices! I worry a little about using Al bolts/nuts re strength. Would prefer stainless steel. Troy-Thanks for the hex hint. You are right I can fit 1/4 and 6mm hex into the (non HFGH) tracks! However stainless hex bolts cost more than $1 each here :-( So hopefully the UK Al bolts will work for me....See MoreUsing Captive Bolts in HFGH?
Comments (23)Nathan: Yes, that is what we were told, more or less. If memory serves, it goes back to a time long ago, before we replaced all of our windows with thermopanes and needed replacement screws to hold the aluminum frames of storm windows. The man at our local hardware store (Oh, for the days of real hardware stores!) told us not to use anything but aluminum or SS, or the screws and/or aluminum frames would corrode. He didn't explain WHY though, or I've forgotten, but your explaination would make sense, especially in a GH that uses water that has been treated for hardness. But why is SS exempt? Or is it simply LESS prone to the reaction? I think I understand why BC supplies only SS fasteners with their GH's instead of aluminum though: it's simply too soft for such use. Thinking back; that was why we needed new screws. We had removed the storm windows to paint the window frames and the aluminum screws furnished with them had stripped out in the process....See MoreIn search of metric cabinets
Comments (10)thanks everyone - especially Bob and Angie for the Scherrs suggestion. Called them y-day and they were friendly and reasonable - about 200-300 for a cab. I only need bottoms and only about 6 cabs at that, so I think it's doable. time to get the tape measure! debrak - I need metric, because I have a set of about 10 metric doors with hinges and handles pre installed that I brought with me from my previous house which had metric cabs when we bought it - soon after we moved in the euro manufacturer sent me a second set for free as 1 or 2 had had problems and they were still under guarantee. Since I like the style and the brand is good all I need are the boxes. Nothing better or worse about metric or inches size, just happen to have them - had hoped to go the ikea route.. but then discovered ikea had only inches-sized cabs in the US. if anyone has other suggestions i'd love them as would like to compare scherrs to someone else. i heard a company called viola park is also good but their price list on the web has very high numbers - about 2000 for a simple box! how can that possibly cost that much!! my other option i suppose is to just buy the ikea run of cabs and save the euro doors for something else, might even be cheaper.. but i'd like to use up the doors as they are sitting around in big boxes!...See Morewestes Zone 9b California SF Bay
